I’m not a legal expert, so here’s my question:
If Zimmerman is charged with 2nd-degree murder, can a jury still decide to find him guilty of a lesser charge such as manslaughter?

My gut tells me this is an old fashion case of charge big, and convict or plea to the lesser charge (manslaughter).
This was a freak show straight out of an African kangaroo court. I wonder if she received permission from the parents, or was encouraged, to use the trademark “Justice for Trayvon” phrase.
The 90 year old war veteran husband was beaten and his jaw broken. He was shot in the face numerous times with a BB gun and sent to the hospital in critical condition.
The 85 year old partially blind wife was RAPED and then BEATEN TO DEATH.
Can you just imagine the pain, the humiliation, the horror that dear old lady experienced being gang raped by that pack of feral animals?
(the autopsy states she was raped. Don’t think all of these animals didn’t all participate)
And can you imagine the pain, the horror of that dear old husband having to witness this?
There’s a lot more involved here than a home invasion and robbery.

Look. Here’s the deal. I really don’t have a dog in this hunt. If there really is evidence that damns Zimmerman, he can fry. If there isn’t, well, .... in this political climate, that is likely to be ignored. However, the public will get wind of any additional evidence that’s there.
It might be better to vacation somewhere a little bit safer...

Isn’t this interesting. First they say there’s no reason to prosecute Zimmerman, and then they prosecute him for second degree murder. Says a lot for the prosecutors, don’t you think?

The only element provable is someone is dead.
The rest of the elements are not proved by witness testimony, the transcripts of the call and, I suspect, the forensics.
I think the gutless States Attorney is laying on 2nd degree in the hope she can get a plea agreement for manslaughter.

I thought it was the job of a special prosecutor to do an investigation to see if a crime has been committed, not how an accused person can be prosecuted.
