After the press picked up the story the cops did end up paying $1200 to fix the door. Of course, if any civilian did this it would be felony criminal mischief.

Imagine if surgeons worked like this. They would pick a random hospital visitor and do a bypass or a hysterectomy. What kind of excuse would work? After Obamacare's full implementation, this might work: "You can't hold me responsible! I work for the government!"

No. He can consider himself lucky that they did not shoot him.

“only four times in sixteen years”
So that is something to bragg about...a serial killer can bragg about only killing four people in sixteen years, he can claim he is not as bad as some other serial killers.

How in hell does this happen? I mean, really. These bad boy’z with all their bad boy toy’z muck up the intel like this.
What if the old man would have had a heart attack or heaven forbid was so confused he failed to follow their orders and got himself shot? Would the cops just express how sorry they are?
This should never happen....ever.

Auburn Police Chief Gary Giannotta admitted the mistake and told WSYR that he only remembers police raiding a wrong house four times in the last 16 years. And next year he will remember only two times.

Can’t be a professional cop these days without raiding a wrong house or two.

Imagine if surgeons worked like this. They would pick a random hospital visitor and do a bypass or a hysterectomy. What kind of excuse would work? Good point. And can you imagine going into surgery and the surgeon says: "Relax. I only remember performing the wrong operation on somebody four times in the last 16 years. So just stay calm. I'll probably get it right."

The 4 times in 16 years doesn’t sound too bad, unless I’m one of those 4. I’d like to know how many raids they’ve done over those 16 years.
I can’t imagine Syracuse has too many of em. If they do one a month then they have an error rate of 2%. Pretty high when lives are at stake. Of course they might do more than that, or less.

Unless it is considered racially discriminatory, I would suggest “reading and writing” tests for at least the 5th grade level for all police officers in NY.
