By the time Mitt Romney arrives in Wisconsin Friday his first campaign stop in the state before its GOP primary on Tuesday his challenger Rick Santorum will have already become a familiar face. Mr. Santorum has been in Wisconsin since last weekend and has dined, bowled, and played shuffleboard with residents in every pocket of the state. Hes even tossed a football at Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers.
Santorums once-generous lead in Wisconsin is eroding. In February, the former US senator polled at 34 percent among the states likely Republican voters, while Mr. Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, trailed far back at 18 percent, according to a Marquette University Law School poll.
Current Wisconsin polling shows Romney leading, 39 percent to Santorums 31 percent.
What happened? The easy answer is money. The Romney campaign is armed with seemingly unlimited campaign resources to flood local airwaves and phone banks, resulting in the candidate not necessarily having to step foot in the state until just before its voters head to the booths.
By early this week in Wisconsin, combined spending by the Romney campaign and Restore Our Future, a pro-Romney super political-action committee, totaled about $2 million in television advertising, much of it negative. By contrast, Santorums campaign had spent under $100,000 by last Sunday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and the Red White and Blue Fund, a super PAC backing Santorum, had spent about $300,000.

John McAdams, a political scientist at Marquette University in Milwaukee, says what Santorum meant in those comments was not terrible, but they became gaffes because he could not articulate his positions in a way that sounded reasonable.
Rickey is a union goon.
Here’s a clue Rick.
Walker is transforming Wi for the better.
The contraception stuff was enough to make him not a credible alternative for many, perhaps most, of the people looking for a non Romney. Once it became known that Rick said the following (on video last October):
"One of the things I will talk about that no President has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the whole sexual libertine idea. Many in the Christian faith have said, 'Well, thats okay. Contraceptions okay.' Its not okay..."
...many conservatives grasping at some alternative to Mitt struck Santorum from the list. Sorry, but we just don't need a national conversation on why contraception is "not okay". Any candidate that thinks we do just can't be taken seriously and would be a sure-bet to drag the campaign into long ago settled social issues that would be a guaranteed loser.
And his use of a four letter word does not impress the Christian conservatives who are his base. That slip of the tongue can be traced to his slip in the polls. Because of his profanity, and his flippant answer, many think he is a phoney.
I am sure a pro-abortion liberal snob is much more suitable for the modern, hyphenated-conservative GOP ticket.
Bingo
I’m sure it had nothing to do with rick claiming that people who defend themselves have a “sick mind”.
And all the reactions have been, not so good. He is supposed to be this high and mighty Christian but comes across as a whiny, angry hypocrite. And most of the evaluations and polls also see him that way. It's his own fault. He is just not a very viable candidate.
That was the final straw for me.
I never cared for his sanctimonious ass anyway.

He has struck me as petulant from day one.
This was disappointing. Sometimes I think Santorum doesn’t want to win.
In WA state, the Ron Paul Campaign has made a deal with the Santorum campaign to throw all the Paul delegates to Santorum.
This was reported and confirmed by our local newspaper, the Bellingham Herald. GOP leaders are furious.
We tried to warn those who blindly went for him. We warned them that he could not win the nomination or the general, and that he would just split the vote and guarantee a Romney win.
Well guess what? Hello Reality!
Yeah. That was disappointing.
But Romney is a POS so I won’t vote for him either.
| Poll | Date | Sample | Romney | Santorum | Paul | Gingrich | Spread |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RCP Average | 3/22 - 3/29 | -- | 40.0 | 32.5 | 9.3 | 6.0 | Romney +7.5 |
| Rasmussen Reports | 3/29 - 3/29 | 717 LV | 44 | 34 | 7 | 7 | Romney +10 |
| NBC News/Marist | 3/26 - 3/27 | 740 LV | 40 | 33 | 11 | 8 | Romney +7 |

Hoo boy!
Stand by for 4 more years of Obama.
Now lets get busy with the congress and senate and make him a lame duck.
Since he voted for planned Parenthood and Abortion funding and was formerly a proclaimed “Pro-Choice” advocate before he ran for office.
So be careful how you throw those accusations around, they have a habit of coming right back at hypocritical phonies like Santorum.
I would vote for Dilberts manager if we could have the house and senate.
You sound so giddy about a Romney nomination. I don’t like it at all. You never liked Santorum anyway so you are pleased he failed. Good for you. I will NOT vote for Romney under ANY circumstances. People like you who given the choice of Romney or Santorum chose Romney. Well good luck in November. YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT BIG TIME!!!!
I agree, me too. “Virulently Petulant”, I might reiterate.
Count me in, these “Newt supporters” who are now desperately supporting Romney deserve everything they’ve worked for.
WA may just be the first state to try this. Others may follow.
It sounded strange to me, at first, but what they are doing is going for brokered convention.
Santorum is the epitome of weak, but weak is better than treacherous. I would take the eminently unlikeable Santorum over Bishop Willard Mitt Romney.
Bishop Willard Mitt Romney, god seed, strong in the slaying of gentile fetuses, and combining the best of Margaret Sanger and occult fantasy.
Things like this will only go against Santorum.
I’m not happy at all. we are screwed.
Everyone knows Romney is a political chameleon.
So is Saintorum and Newt to a lesser extent.
You know damn well that I supported Rick Perry and I still do.
At this point all we can do is beat the feds with decent representatives in the house and senate.
Perry just defeated the EPA this past week.
Boo Ya!
Yup. I would rather play naked twister with Rosie O Donnell than vote for any of these RINO clowns.
“The truly unfortunate thing is that you may have to decide who is the bigger POS, obumber or romney.”
That is easy for me. The enemy within can do more damage than the enemy at the gates.
And you might as well move to another planet if you think you are doing the right thing by pouting and helping Obama win.
LOL!
And you might as well move to another planet if you think you are doing the right thing by pouting and helping Obama win.
I am just following what you did the whole primary complaining about Santorum the entire time. If you and your supporters would have given an inch to Santorum, we would not be having this tragic election. But you just had to have your way with having Santorum not make it and now we are screwed. I will NOT vote for Romney just like you DID NOT Vote for McCain in 2008....why was it ok for you in 2008, but not for me in 2012?
Santo went on a bowling tour in Wi.
He thinks he is dating laverne and shirley
Thats who he thinks they are.
I like bowling too, but here’s a clue Rick.
Folks up there love to hunt and they love to fish.
Yeah they have a history of unionized labor but they have a longer history of self sufficiency
If you think Obama’s first term was a nightmare, his second term will be beyond all earthly logic. And if you cannot understand that simple reality, then you truly must be a moron.
Next time, when you start drooling over a picture of Romney, clean yourself.
Stand by PF because Obama us getting another term and you are correct,he us going to go scorched earth on us in the next term.
He’s got nothing to lose.
We need the house and senate and power in the states to stop this tyrant.
yeah and yet Mitt Romney is Ronald Reagan in comparison, right. (Can you hear my sarcasm/)!
If there was a final straw, you had no convictions in the first place.
I said that it would guarantee a Romney win. And all you could do, was throw insults and innuendo at us for doing so.
Now, we all have to live with the result of your ignorance. (That goes for all the Santorum ignoramuses)
I wonder if it sucks to look in the mirror and know that you are a liar. If Rick is a “union goon” (a term that actually made me laugh), why are none of the REAL union goons in Wisconsin supporting him? Do we really need patent silliness on this site? Bob
How is Newt working to for guys? All that bandwidth just wasted. Unless of course that was your plan all along.
Rick Perry us the original 10th amendment guy!
Re sesult is, WE ALL LOSE.
We are in a battle with SCOTUS ruling at this very moment over obama care.
How did we get there?
Rick Perry and Greg Abbott were the first to challenge the feds.
Now we have 26 states challenging.
God Bless them!
I don’t see how. I’m guessing that other states will follow suit.
We were told at the caucus that the delegates could vote for their own candidate at the state convention, and that is what they are doing, just combining the Santorum and Paul delegates.
He is a Union goon.
I grew up in his neck of the woods.
He is everything that is wrong with the place.
I was like 17 when I realized “right to work” should be the law of the land.
