what caused Zimmerman such consternation upon seeing a person walking through his neighborhood?

I believe it was the incredible number of burglaries in his neighborhood in recent months. When is "enough"?

He’s a “white hispanic” by the media (whatever they are). That makes it okay to pile it on.

Your scenario is quite possible.

1- I don’t think NYC would be chosen because the NYPD would be extremely rough with violent rioters and looters.

2- They’ll never attack the West Village (Bleeker Street) because it’s their natural supporters’ neighborhood, h0m0s, that is.

PS. (2-) just kidding but it could still happen.

Do the 911 tapes reveal that Martin was engaged in some sort of crime that caused Zimmerman to intercede? Do they reveal that Zimmerman did not go out looking for trouble?

Hence, the neighborhood watch.

Note, the word is “watch,” not “accost.”

You obviously are just repeating the Leftist media’s lies and distortions and haven’t listened to the 911 calls or read the police reports.

You’ll believe anything the Left tells you which makes you a complete fool and an idiot.

There is no doubt a confrontation happened. But that does not always amount to a cause for self defense. If Zimmerman tried to detain Martin and they struggled as a result Zimmerman is partially responsible for provoking the attack.

Zimmerman knew the police were on the way. He had not witnessed any crime. He made the comment about “.. they always get away.” He had no reason to think he or anyone else was in personal danger. In my opinion he decided to pursue Martin and possibly try to hold him for the police. That was way beyond reasonable actions based on the facts he had at the time.

If Martin (and who will ever now) thought he was in danger from this large strange guy who was making unfounded accusation against him, then yeah Martin was right to defend himself.

By the way I have listened to the tapes with screaming. It sounds like a young man. I imagine both of them were screaming and since witnesses are easily lead and things happened very fast I would not rely on what witnesses heard to determine the truth.

The “stand and defend” law was not written to address situations such as this, and Zimmerman should be charged with homicide.

You can’t describe it to me? What have I said about the situation that is untrue? (Besides my judgment that it was murder.)

No, if Zimmerman, who was armed, tried to detain Martin then Zimmerman would be 100% responsible.

The SYG law would apply to Martin defending himself - not to the instigator.

Maybe it was self defense, maybe it wasn’t.

But for me, that’s for a jury to determine. For the police and the DA to let the shooter just walk - that’s the miscarriage of justice.

If the situation were more clearcut (say a home invasion scenario where homeowner kills invader(s) in self-defense) then sure, decline to prosecute, decline to arrest - nobody would raise an eyebrow (at least I wouldn’t).

But this situation is not that. That’s what grand juries and juries are for.

I’m not arguing guilt or innocence. I’m arguing the decision to circumvent the system that determines guilt or innocence.

Is that why the “yout” was pounding the poop out of him?

We don’t know what happened.

We have 911 audio which documents zimmerman calling for help.

The picture in the media does not show this was a 6 foot 2 kid.

also zimmerman did call police also.

again we do not know. But rest assured the just appointed state wide prosecutor will provide the requested mob feeding.

“That so many FReepers are quick to label any black person as a thug or a “hood rat” is a disgrace.”

i absolutely agree. Zimmerman was told not to follow Martin. In the 911 call Zimmerman says ‘he’s running away’. Zimmerman followed, probably scared the kid. If there were ‘blows’, the KID was defending himself. Zimmerman then shot him.

Zimmerman stalked this kid. Zimmerman is a ‘wannabe stud he-man hero’. The police were incompetent.

2nd degree murder charges should be filed against Zimmerman.

I think that Zimmerman’s behavior precipitated the whole incident. A trial will sort all of that out. However,....

The media, particularly HLN network, is perfectly happy to declare Zimmerman guilty without a trial. The publicity wh—e show hosts there have declared that the Martin boy was “lynched with a gun.” They have interviewed folk talking about a recurrence of race riots like those in LA. They did nothing yesterday but fan flames for their own ratings.

I agree and I have read the reports and I have listened to the tapes.

I won’t demonize Zimmerman. I think he truly was fed up with all the burglaries in his neighborhood and figured he could follow this Martin and somehow prevent him from leaving till the cops got there. The problem with that is he made the judgment that Martin was guilty without having any probable cause to do so.

Oh, absolutely - watch, and call 911.

Now, you don’t know that he “accosted” Martin, just that he was following him. Obviously an [avoidable] altercation occurred, and Zim putting himself in a position where he had to defend himself with deadly force was a very STUPID thing to do.

However, beating Zim on the ground was also a very STUPID thing for Martin to do.

But what kept Zimmerman from simply watching the boy from a distance until he reached his destination? Why get out and confront? Zimmerman made mistakes that precipitated the incident.
