A suspected drunken driver accused of crashing into a home killing one child and injuring another is being held without bail after a judge heard Monday that he may not be in this country legally.
Luis Hector Lopez-Rodriguez, 27, is accused of losing control of the blue Ford Crown Victoria he was driving and plowing in to the front porch of a southwest Houston apartment, where two children were playing during a Saturday night party.
During a brief court appearance Monday, Magistrate Judge Blanca Villagomez said federal officials have put a hold on Lopez-Rodriguez, which typically means his immigration status is in question. He apparently is a Mexican citizen.

The woman, who has two children with Lopez-Rodriguez, told authorities he hit her in the mouth with his fist. Although he was charged, he apparently was never arrested.

You’re absolutely right. When I read of this crash, my first thought was “I’ll bet it’s an illegal immigrant”. I guess drunk driving is the macho thing to do in Mexico and it pisses me off that so many American’s are being murdered this way while our politicians do nothing.
I wonder if when they photo people like this, they give that photo to the perp before sending him back with an absentee ballot.
If you watch the news in Houston, on a nightly basis, and if there is an accident involving a drunk driver and they give the name, it seems to be Hispanic most of the time, Don’t have any data on this, but seems there a lot of drunk Mexicans on Houston streets.
They’re always driving in the shadows, even at noon.

One night a few year ago I heard a loud crash & poked my head outside to find that two completely soused hispanic day laborers had plowed their Honda beater into my neighbors car, parked in front of our house.
Knocked it clear up on to their lawn.
In my area they flee the scene when they have accidents; I do think they still get locked up if they dry illegally (or drunk). We have a county jail in our town, and an illegal alien holding tank nearby.
The Lib response to this is to suppress the names so one doesn’t reach that connection. It is that even the race is omitted from reports. It was a 30ish gentleman that whipped robbed and killed a cabdriver. That’s all.Then maybe later it’s age or gender discrimination problem.
So it was a person, that committed this act. “If anyone has seen a person at that vicinity at that time please report to the police”.
90% of the Houston billboards that are in Spanish advertise alcoholic beverages. That says a lot.
It would be hard to know if they’re illegal since there are so many in Texas to begin with, but Mexico doesn’t have the anti-DUI culture that we do. Add to that the fact that there are many younger people among the Mexican population on average and I think you’ll end up with more drunk drivers from that demographic. Given that this guy is breaking the law to begin with by being illegal, it doesn’t surprise me that he’s DUI.
I guess Mexican authorities feel stronger about protecting their citizens' personal posessions than US law does about the very lives of its citizens and children.

This situation has gotten so out of control that on GW Bush’s watch President Fox asked for help from the US in chasing down ILLEGAL deadbeat dads that had stopped sending remittances home because they shacked up with another she-illegal up here. We were being asked to get child support payments for the Mexican government from people we couldn’t even collect AMERICAN income taxes from.
Both parties are complicit in destroying this country.

You are required to have a vehicle inspection, they don’t. They can’t stop and hit you, they pollute... you pay.
You have health insurance, you pay for it, they have insurance and DON’T pay but they are ahead of you in the emergency room and their are lawyers with their business cards in spanglish explaining how if they agree to sue for the horrible things doctors have done to them... they can hit the jackpot... Remember this case from last year..GALVESTON — The crushing news came last month as Maria Sanchez was being prepared for surgery to remove a banana-size tumor along her spine that had crept between her vertebrae.
Unable to use her right hand because of the growing tumor, Sanchez, 24, had been at the University of Texas Medical Branch’s John Sealy Hospital for six days when, she said, a Spanish-speaking doctor told her she had to leave the hospital immediately because she was an illegal immigrant. The doctor said she should have surgery in Mexico, according to Sanchez.
Sanchez’s hospital records state that she was discharged because she was “an undocumented pt (patient) with no insurance.” Records show that Sanchez underwent at least one medical procedure and surgery was scheduled before she was dismissed without warning Jan. 12.
After being discharged, Sanchez called her husband, Luis Aguillon, a legal U.S. resident, who arrived at the hospital to find his wife and his mother sitting on her bed crying.”They treated us like animals, like dogs or something,” said Aguillon, 36, an unemployed welder.
Sanchez’s abrupt expulsion raises ethical and legal questions about the treatment of low-income patients with life-threatening conditions. A doctor who reviewed Sanchez’s medical records for the Houston Chronicle said they showed that UTMB ejected a woman with a potentially fatal condition because she was unable to pay.

You’re right about that. Used to live over there in 1985 and it was fine. I hate to even go over there in the daytime and certainly never would venture off 59 at night. Local news all carried the story but, not surprisingly, nobody mentioned whether or not he was an illegal.
In 1985 Southwest Houston was very up scaled. I Lived there until about 85 then moved over to Eldridge near Memorial drive. Only problem I had was at the apt complex, Hamilton Park ,some apt’s were being broken into. I was home during the day and this black guy knocked on my door and I looked out the peep hole and decided not to answer the door, next thing I know, I hear him signal for 3 other black guys to come ahead, we got one. I stood in wait with my 357 locked and loaded, was ready to take them out, but something alrmed them and they took off. In 5 years only 1 problem.Now it’s like some 3rd world country this side of town
