One in a series of vanities about what Newt needs to do to help Rick

Conservatives had a good result tonight - I think they will get about 2/3 of the Alabama and Mississippi delegates. But it will soon be time for Newt to suspend his campaign and give Rick the momentum. I am giving Newt until 1 April to do this.

I am still calm, but I plan on having an anxiety attack prior to 3 April if Newt is still in it. The winner-take-all states that day require Newt to depart. This is the best way to block Mittens, but it still won't give Rick half...

But, and here is the kicker, I want Newt to UNSUSPEND his campaign sometime in June so that his bound delegates will not help Mittens get to the half he needs for the round 1 vote at the convention. In the ensuing chaos of the round two vote I want a deal to be struck between Newt and Rick. This is what is needed.

Newt is the best debater, and is far more capable than Santorum. Newt should and will stay in. He can then convince the brokered convention that he is the best candidate to go 1 on 1 against the Kenyan socialist.

“He’s still better than Romney, but not by much - he’s just a big government RINO who happens to be pro-life.”

You are exactly right. But for one issue voters Santorum is nirvana.

The country is on the brink economically. We know that, if reelected Obama will put his foot to the gas and run us pff the cliff. Romney will do nothing to fundamentally change the big government we have. socialism on the installment plan as T Sowell would say.

As to Santorum, he is fine on social issues, he would probably appoint good USSC justices, his energy policy is OK (a lot of platitudes), but his tax policy, his take on getting rid of Obama care and replacing it with whatever, and his other economic policies aren’t going to get the job done. He IOW not a whole lot better than mittens except on Abortion.

Gingrich is the only one who understands the gravity of the situation and what needs to be done to save the country.

Worrying about whether Romney, Santorum or Obama is elected is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

So with any on these 3 the country is totally hosed. 2016 is too late.

That's exactly the problem. Even here on Free Republic, you have a bunch of shortsighted people who want Santorum because he's socially conservative, and they don;t care about anything else.

Shoot, Gingrich is socially conservative. Anybody who thinks Newt would support abortion or the gay agenda or whatnot is just being purposefully obtuse. The guy has a massively socially conservative voting record. He was pushing to remove the marriage penalty while Santorum was voting to keep it.

Frankly, the whole kerfluffle about "implantation" is just some insular Catholic theological question. Anybody who seriously thinks that Newt would start supporting Planned Parenthood because he once flirted with some ideas about "implantation" instead of "conception" (IIRC, didn't he later turn away from implantation anywise?) simply needs their head examined. It's like the people who started trying to argue that Herman Cain was a rabid pro-choicer because he made some slip of the tongue. One can only look at their arguments and ask, "Are you serious?"

Why, oh why, do Newt supporters think that Santorum supporters would rally around Newt? It has been cutting both ways. I expect Newt will remain in the running. I also expect that after the last three races, his poll numbers will finally begin to move, though not in the direction you would like to see.

As much as he tried to downplay AL and MS going in, they really were must wins for him. Even if Santorum imploded tomorrow, Romney would sew up the nomination before Gingrich could rise enough to challenge him. In the last month, he has been stuck between 14 and 16% in the RCP averages. Even as Santorum was nose-diving, he could not break out. What makes you think he could now?

I will grant you that he might have made a better President. However, he could not overcome his past. Romney’s huge attack in Florida would not have worked on him if he could have done so.

I half expected to feel the disappointment you are feeling tonight. In that, you have my condolences. At least Romney was kept down in third.

(Barney tells Andy he thinks he knows who's stealing from Weaver's store)

Barney: All right, let's play it Question and Answer. Now, I'll ask the questions and you answer "yes" or "no", OK?

Andy: OK.

Barney: All right, here we go. A – who's store is bein' robbed?

Andy: Uh... no?

Barney: (starts getting annoyed) What d'ya mean "no"?

Andy: You said answer "yes" or "no".

Barney: I meant one word – answer one word.

Andy: Well, you didn't say that.

Barney: All right, let's start again from the beginnin' and this time answer in one word, OK?

Andy: Okay.

Barney: All right, A – who's store is bein' robbed?

Andy: Weaver's.

Barney: Right. B – who's gonna collect the insurance on those thefts?

Andy: Weaver.

Barney: Right, right, right. C – who was creepin' around in that store last night?

Andy: You were.

Barney: (more annoyed) What d'ya mean "I were"?

Andy: You were; course I know that's two words.

Barney: Now don't get purposely obtuse, Andy. The answer is: Weaver.

Andy: Well, I missed it.

Barney: Well, play the game, play the game! I hate it when you get obtuse. Now where'd I leave off?

Andy: C.

Barney: All right, D – who in their entire life ever got a bargain in Weaver's store? Andy:

Uh... Weaver?

Barney: Ah, come on, Andy. I'm tryin' to give you the name of the criminal and you won't accept it. The answer is "nobody".

Andy: Nobody's the criminal?

Barney: (very annoyed) Boy, when you get obtuse!

IMHO, should RS get the nomination then Zero gets the presidency and the nation dies. Should NG get the nomination then NG gets the presidency and the country lives to eventually get it's fiscal and cultural moorings back.

Exactly.

Rick Santorum cannot win against Barack Obama. It’s that simple.

By the time the obama machine gets done with Santorum, you could fit him in a TIC TAC box.

Santo talks a good game and invokes his Religion at every opportunity, but obama is already trying to get rid of every facet of Religion that he can and kill the first Amendment.

Santorum cannot beat barack obama, so not only does Santorum lose, but so will the rest of us after four more of BO.

REALLY?

And just WHO made you the arbiter of what is best for we (real) "Conservatives?"

Little Ricky (the one trick pony) may be better than Mittens, (barely) but some of us are hanging tough with our guy Newt so in the meantime, if you want to post your address, I'll send you some good adult beverages (or sedatives) to help calm your nerves, cuz right now, Sir Gingrich ain't going nowhere, thank God!!!

Your support of Mitt can get you kicked off around here.

With that said..

Mitt can talk a good talk. But his record says his talk is just that. Talk.

Mitt has taken just about every side of every issue known to man. His actions indicate to me he is a big spending, big government liberal.

I can’t support him. I won’t support him. I am still trying to decide if I can hold my nose and vote for him.

"Mitt can talk a good talk. But his record says his talk is just that. Talk."

Certainly the same could be said about santorum.

And just for the record, I have never supported mitt, NEVER. What I did say is that both suck, but mitt is a far superior candidate and would be a better president then santorum.

{you have a bunch of shortsighted people who want Santorum because he’s socially conservative, and they don;t care about anything else.}
And we have a bunch of loony Ron Paul wannabes that think social conservatives should only speak when they are called on to sell out their convictions to the latest GOPe shill.

We have been told since Truman don’t push the social issues, we will get to them, well we never get to them, we will this time. Bob Dole was asked about the abortion plank in the republican platform, he replied who cares no one ever reads that thing. Where is Bob today, oh wait I think he was commiserating with Arlen about how he would have switched parties too.

Yes, I would be nervous if I were you as well. Rick will lose. He needs to drop out. Newt has actually achieved something while in power and he can also talk while chewing gum at the same time.

He invokes his faith not his religion. Big difference. Washington would have been a loser in your world, as would Adams, even Jefferson, was more religious than most Christians today.

Whichever one of them is behind in any winner take all states needs to step back and tell his supporters to get behind the other conservative. We can't let Romney take any big chunks of delegates.

And get ready for the elites to try to take over the election. Tea Party, it needs to be our next gathering spot. We'll have a civilized version of the Dem 1968 convention.

SAntorum and Gingrich were in a statistial tie...why doesn't Ricky take one for the team and bow out?

You santorumites campaign like obama...you just want your opponents destroyed, or dropping out to make it easy.
