I am no fan of Romney’s, but it’s baffling that some hereon would rather keep Obama, who is absolutely, relentlessly dedicated to the destruction of the country. I totally disagree with some of Romney’s policies but I have never thought of him as actually wanting to tear down the U.S. - and like it or not, that’s the choice we may be confronted with. I just can’t relate to the “let’s die quickly and teach them a lesson” concept.

Many people just don't want to send a message during the primaries that Romney is any way tolerable. If those folks say "I hate Romney, but yeah I will hold my nose and vote for him against Obama" it is basically a concession that, in the end, he actually is at least somewhat acceptable. To try to hold the line against Mitt and get a better candidate that is more representative of the conservative/Tea Party grassroots, it is arguably better to not concede that in the end folks would vote for him anyway.

If Romney becomes the nominee things will change. Most conservatives will vote for him in order to get rid of Hussein. People like Sarah Palin will end up aggressively campaigning for him to lock up the base, the media will slant against Mitt to such an extent that the grass roots will rally, Romney will end up on the right side of enough issues, etc, etc.

The real problem with Romney as the nominee (aside from the fact he is not a conservative) is not that he won't get most right of center votes, it's that he generates virtually no enthusiasm from the very people the party needs to mobilize GOTV efforts. It is the grass roots conservatives that go door to do, man phone banks, send out mailers, etc. Mushy moderates, Mitt's real constituency, aren't the kind of people that generate real excitement. If Romney were nominated, I am guessing we will see a Romney/Rubio ticket, so perhaps the combination of Rubio and high profile supporters like Palin might generate the needed level of enthusiasm. I have my doubts though.

Cantor, McCain and Barbour were three of four ‘Republicans’ who had ‘a plan’ set up for the country, said ‘plan’ specifics taken down immediately following the 2010 elections.

How much lucre did it take, Cantor? What was your price?

We have known this for a long time.

“””Cantor did his best to block the effects of the 2010 conservative election victory, and to block the tea party in the congress, and he is a backer of Mitt Romney.
Cantor is part of that enemy tribe of anti-conservative rinos that has been uncovered since 2008 and especially in the 2010 election and it’s aftermath.
Cantor threw his support behind Scazzafava, against Palin, and for Mitt Romney, and against Bachmann for house power, after the 2010 win.
Cantor is the problem, not part of the solution.

Who's side are you on when it comes to the issues ?

Ok Newt supporters... Jim Robinson ?

Who's side are you on ?

A new person has jumped into the fray of attacking Rick Santorum....

A gay advocate Billionare has just got into the attack on Rick Santorum and has given money....

Now who's side are you on now ? and the issues ?
We thought Free Republic was Pro-God, Pro-family, and against the gay agenda, against Abortion ?

What ever happen to those founding principles that Free Republic was founded on ?

Or were those founding principles push off on the way side and sacrificed for the sake of winning ?

Remember Jim Robinson ?

It will be God himself who will hold you accountable,
and God expects you to make the wise and right choice coming Tuesday..

Excellent! Beating Romney isn’t the issue.

Beating Obama and overturning all his socialist, progressive, fascist policies is the only thing that matters.

House-Senate-Presidency in 2012!

IF Romney is the nominee - he will copy McCain’s VP selection and choose a dynamic, charismatic conservative to fill in all the gaps in his resume.

Don’t have a clue who is on his radar - but Allen West would be a great choice to keep Romney focused and attract conservative votes as did Sarah Palin.

I didn’t like or trust Cantor last year and after 14 months of failures I like him even less now. His wimpy superior lecturing style, much like Obama’s, doesn’t work with me either especially with his consistent record of failure.

I see Cantor just had to take the bait and slap Rush down too. Loser!

I'd agree, though West is only a 1 term congressman. Don't think he really has the experience for a national campaign. My guess is that it will be Rubio. I think Rubio's claims that he is not interested in the VP slot was simply because he is so obviously a great choice that the media would have obsessed about it for the past year and through till the convention.

Romney would need more though. He really is just that uninspiring. If Mitt were nominated, he'd also depend heavily on folks like Palin to gin up enthusiasm for his election and I am sure she would campaign hard for him.

Wake up? Obama would crush Santorum in debate. It would take Bam about two minutes to get under Rick’s thin skin and make him say something stupid. One thing Santorum has continually demonstrated is that all too often he shoots from the lip without engaging his brain first.

The only one I saw get slaughtered in the debates was Newt Gingrich by Mitt Romney when he reminded Gingrich of his own portfolio having Fanny/Freddie stocks and Newt immediately went blank and gave a stare with his mouth wide open in fear of his life. It was an embarrassing moment for Republicans. Newt does not do well with getting attacked by liberals which means he would be horrible debating Obama just like he was debating Romney. Newt does well in a positive environment but I think when he is picked on it takes him back to childhood where he was made fun of and he does not know how to attack back.

You act as if Santorum is a viable alternative to Romney and the establishment; he's every bit their guy. Alternative? It simply isn't so and electability is dubious.

Dig into his record. Inspect his baggage. Discovery why he really lost reelection by that 18 points, the most for an incumbent senator in over 25 years.

He slipped into the Senate on the back of Newt's 1994 Republican Revolution, he stayed in the Senate when W won in 2000 and when he didn't have coat tails to ride, he was swept away on his own record. He has not won among women and lost 61% of their vote in 2006.

LOL! Apparently, you missed the last debate! Santorum was blue in the face after Romney and Paul called him on his own hypocrisy and inflated image of himself.

They had him stuttering and in a rage. It was hilarious! Newt sat quietly back and let it happen, and took advantage of the situation, which Newt then went of to illustrate his level intellect and ability to handle himself under pressure.

Santorum comes apart like wet toilet paper. It's a simple and obvious fact.

You must have been the only one to see it. Nobody else has mentioned such things and the media said that he did good, but Romney did better. Now last night Santorum did the best of the three according to Fox News. The only thing that matters is how many states each one wins on Tuesday. If Newt wins only one state, he seriously needs to get out of the primary. Winning only 2 states out of 23 states is not good at all.

Cantor came on immediately after Newt. David Gregory gave him several of the same questions.

Compared to Newt, Cantor looked like an incompetent stuttering fool. If you didn’t see it, I would encourage you to watch both interviews.

It’s quite a contrast.

Good point (I voted for Newt in the AZ primary) - it’s those folks who hate Romney so much they have convinced themselves we’d be better off with Obama for the next 4 years that I don’t understand.

He will. Did you see Wallace take Santorum apart on FOX this morning? Barring a miracle, it's over. Ailes made Romney the nominee as of this morning.
