Just when it seemed like things couldn't get worse, Indiana received more bad news on the electric vehicle front Wednesday as another promising hopeful announced it would call it quits.
Bright Automotive, which had plans to deliver 300 manufacturing jobs to Indiana by 2012 pending the outcome of a loan from the Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Program, announced Wednesday it has withdrawn its DOE application and will wind down operations in Indiana.
In a scathing letter to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Bright Automotive Chief Executive Reuben Munger and Chief Operating Officer Mike Donoughe described an overly bureaucratic process and called the department ineffective in its mission to meet President Barack Obama's goal of adding one million plug-in vehicles to the road by 2015.

I would not be surprised if Volt did get the red carpet, express rubber stamp approval treatment compared to Bright.

Sounds as if Bright didn’t donate enough to Zer0’s campaigns.
P.S. I’d also be pretty sure that the increased scrutiny is partly to try to avoid more embarrassments like Solyndra even as the administration continues to donkey-bray that nothing was wrong with the Solyndra venture. With the Volt there was a big cushy taxpayer-subsidized pillow to absorb its gross losses. There would be nothing to hide problems with the Bright.
Also the Indiana based Bright does not need to be union any more. That makes subsidies to it far less capable of producing campaign kickbacks to Obama.
I thought everything was absolutely peachy. Senate's safe for the Dems, House of Reps will be back in Dem hands soon, and Obama's beatin' the pants off every one of his potential Republican challengers.
The purpose isn’t to make cars, the purpose is to put money in Democrat pockets.
How could they not know this going in?
Promising only to those who were in on the skim.
“described an overly bureaucratic process and called the department ineffective”
Well, the problem here is EASY to see.
They didn’t give .. err.. I mean they didn’t “donate” enough money to the right Democrats. It’s all Chicago-Style, now.
The LEAF isn’t the real threat to the VOLT, the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid that comes out this month is the real threat.
And it’s some $8,000 CHEAPER, putting it in the $400-$500 a month payment range, unlike the $700-$800 a month for the VOLT.

Sounds like last call at the singles bar.
"Of course I'll respect you in the morning."
