Some think that mountain lions are a threatened or endangered species. They are neither. Wildlife biologists say that lions are healthy and abundant in much of California. Mountain lions are rather a specially protected species in California by a law created by a voter’s initiative, not by wildlife biologists.
Like Cap & Trade, this law exists solely to make Californians feel superior and more enlightened.

If the commissioner pushed for this law in California and then went and hunted in Idaho in a way that would be forbidden by this law in California, he’s a big hypocrite. But maybe he has nothing to do with the law except being stuck with having to enforce it in California.
