As I uncovered long buried interviews from your contemporaries in the late 80s, and then interviews with Paul Weyrich and Pete DuPont, I rediscovered the enormity of what you had accomplished as a young Congressman. I became shocked and angry I didnt know this and that current conservative leaders didnt seem to care.
Until someone puts themselves back in the era of what was considered a permanent minority position, no one today can not comprehend the mental, financial, political and cultural challenge to reversing 40 years of Democrat domination. And you were planning it as a hippy-looking, first term Congressman from Podunk Georgia. (Really, what was up with those sideburns?)

PLEASE DONATE AND MAKE CALLS FOR NEWT STARTING TODAY!
Jim, thanks for that endorsement of Newt. (But tighten it up a little, will you?)
This is a great article. And I have added PolitiJim to my bookmarks. Thank you for posting this.
People should follow the very informative links as well.
Very good article. Thanks for sharing. I’ve donated once, need to donate again. I’ve never done the phone calling before . . . are people nice, rude, a little of both?
You would be surprised, but they are mostly nice, or in between... Alot of them are just glad to be talking to a real human, and not a Robocall. Newt’s site gives you a little script, which, as you relax more, you can deviate from... There is a campaign goal of making 330,000 calls by 02.28 - which would be on par with what Willard is planning... Just 10 calls per day really adds up... You will be a little scared in the beginning, but about your 3rd call, you should be loving it. Try it! I have found most Freepers passionate and persuasive!
Thanks, I just might give it a try. I really believe we need Newt and I need to get over my “shyness/fear” and help get him elected! I think I can do it . . . I’ll report back how it goes.
The others are foot soldiers or desk corps men at their best.
How much of a following does Jim have? Thanks for helping to increase it.
Ping the lists. Excellent article.
And that is why Brit Hume, Krauthammer, et al. are such great disappointments. It is very disheartening.
Good article/thread! Thanks.
Please do report back. I am actually very shy, also, and froze up and hung up on my first before they even answered... YOU CAN DO IT!!
Yes, I know he has that habit of thinking "what if....?" with his mouth open, but when it came time to accomplish things he was 100% hard-driving conservative and accomplished major difficult goals. And you cannot say that about any of the other candidates. Newt 2102. By the way, I just got elected Tuesday to the Colorado State Assembly (where the actual delegates to Tampa are chosen).
As someone who remembers well the terrible years of Ford/Carter and the resurrection of hope in the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980, I see the same vision in Newt. Sure, there were some bumps during the 80's, but for the most part they were very good years, financially and psychologically. It felt great to be an American!
Newt is the first candidate to come along in those 32 years who also brings the same message of hope for the future of our great country.
Go NEWT!
Bump!
Absolutely one of the best posts on Newt EVER! Going to save it and also will send it to my email list.
I donated to Newt last week but this election is so crucial that I will send him another check next week. Thought I would write a few letters to the editor of my local paper and print out some pro Newt campaign literature from his site and snail mail it to my neighbors and the head of the gop in my state and county. This article would be great to include in the mailings.
Keep up the good work true believer forever. Your posts are the absolute best!
It also leads me to this; an apology.
Please forgive me for not knowing my history, and taking for granted what you accomplished for the entire conservative movement from 1978 until your resignation in 1996. Please forgive me, for not defending you more fiercely out of the gate or questioning your love for this country and the calling you have had since you were fifteen years old on the battlefields in France.

Time for Newt/Sarah 2012!
Along these lines, here is a 1:16 video that convinced me to support Newt:

If one compares his accomplishments in government to those of the other candidates, Newt is in a league of his own.
Sign up at Newt.org, volunteer for the phones. You can do it free from your house. People hate the robocalls, but many like a “real live person” when they call. Surveys have shown live calls are vastly, vastly more effective in outreach. One live call is worth 25 robocalls.
“Podunk Georgia”
Thanks, he was my Rep. there was a time when it may be called Podunk but that was long before Newt was elected to represent us.
