Mitt's Scorched Earth Win
American Thinker ^ | 2/1/2012 | C. Edmund Wright

Posted on 02/01/2012 6:03:11 AM PST by Servant of the Cross

While Mitt Romney may have taken a step closer to the nomination Tuesday in Florida, the scorched earth he leaves behind tells me he took a few steps further away from the White House -- and what's more, he knows it.

Terrific analysis from FReeper C. Edmund Wright. Never give up. Don't ever give up. Go Newt!

He articulated what so many of us know to be the case. Florida was a disgrace due to a disgraceful candidate.

Scorched earth from someone that has no core and few scruples.

Very good article. I really liked Newt’s positive campaign before the attacks in IA. We just have to hang on tight for Feb.

All of which led to a dark fantasy kind of a win for Mitt Romney. He had no reason to ask for folks to vote for him, and thus he did not invest much to do so. The scorched earth of Florida will in no way, shape or form resemble any other state let alone the General Election.

Willard can't run on reasons to vote for him, so he resorts to slimy attacks on Newt. Voters in other states can see through this crap.

A very good article.

Romney crapped in his own nest.

No man who really thinks he has a chance at occupying the Oval Office would ever find it necessary to use 99 per cent -- yes, that's right, 99 per cent -- of his own massive advertising budget to tear down his chief opponent.

True.

In Iowa, Gingrich was running a relentlessly positive campaign. He refused to say bad things about Republicans. Mitt went negative in a big way and started to trash Gingrich. Newt's response was a mellow statement that going negative was a bad idea for any Republican.

Well, it worked out OK for Romney.

Romney kept going negative and kept telling lies about Gingrich. Eventually, Newt responded in kind and also went nehative.

Media response -- "Whoa!! Do you see how angry Newt is?? Boy, he's really going negative, huh? That's going to hurt him!!"

Now, in Florida, Romney spent 99% of his money going negative.

Again: Media response -- "Whoa!! Do you see how angry Newt is?? Boy, he really wnet negative, huh? That's what killed his chances!!"

Very good article.

I agree. Tell FReeper C. Edmund Wright. He's the author.

Nothing will grow in the soil of that scorched earth, not even by November. At least for me, Romney is out of consideration forever (but that has been true since RomneyCare passed in Massachusetts). Sadly, America needs an alternative to Obama. I just pray that a non-Romney can win the nomination so we have that non-socialist option.

Yep, that’s a fine article. Why Newt abandoned his positive message remains a mystery, though I suspect it was because of the massive attack waged against him by almost everyone. How do you stay upbeat and positive under such conditions?

But he has to get back on track. His message resonates with the public. He has to get back in campaign mode; not defense mode.

It’s a shame these RINOs are willing to use the nasty tactics of political warfare against each other but not against their opposition.

This is why the GOP — and conservatives — lose so many political battles.

That’s a great article. It “found” my feelings. I, of course, will vote AGAINST Obama ... but I will NOT vote FOR Romney. What a shame, no choice. the GOP has rammed another John McCain down our throats ... damned near cost us the nation last time, this may be the end coming in November. Romney left NO ROOM in his “party” for a conservative like me. If folks feel like I do, many will stay home. Might as well buy Michelle her own plane now.

Romney spent massive ammounts of money for small returns. He should fit in quite nicely with the current DC crowd.
