Gingrich: If Conservatives Unite, I Can Beat Romney

The withdrawal of Jon Huntsman from the Republican presidential race is drawing a range of reactions from his competitors. Newt Gingrich told Politico that he could be a beneficiary of the move.

"It narrows down the field, and I think the next five or six days are going to tell the tale. If the conservatives consolidate, it's clear that I'll beat Romney,” he said.

Gingrich said he is looking forward to the candidates debate in South Carolina tonight. “I'm having to re-gear myself,” he said.

“Notice that they said we're now going to get 90 seconds to answer. The next five days are going to be wild. Really, the test here is simple: If the conservatives consolidate, Romney loses decisively. If they don't consolidate, it's going to be very close,” he said, referring to the South Carolina primary on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Rick Perry apparently will miss the campaign entertainment that Huntsman’s three daughters. "I was hoping I'd get the Huntsman girls,” he said, lamenting the fact that Huntsman moved into former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s camp when he dropped his own bid today.

“We love the Huntsman girls, our kids get along well, and Mary Kaye [Huntsman’s wife] and Anita [Perry’s wife] are best friends. Jon’s a dear friend, too, and we’ve had a wonderful time getting to know the candidates.”

Although Huntsman and Perry were competing for the same job,

Cain, Perry, Gingrich were all, at one point, up to 35% in the polls. They deflated with the 1st pin prick.

So too Romney. If some conservative candidates would stop cannibalizing the other conservative, and instead aim the same negativity to Romney as they did to Cain - Romney's numbers would fall.

The concerted attack by all conservatives, should be (1) that we are not going to allow the GOP one world order establishment to dictate our candidate and control the party ; (2) that billionaire Romney has absolutely no connection to the everyday conservative GOP voter; and (3) and he will perpetuate the plutocracy -socialism for the rich (bailouts); and hard nosed capitalism for the unconnected.

To be fair, Cain took more than one.

Even the GOP convention knows that it cannot nominate a trio. The non-Romney vote outweighs the Romney vote.

I think there is serious doubt, though, that Gingrich is more conservative than Romney. He may have the edge on social issues, but I don’t think he has the edge on economic issues, particularly in light of this “ethical capitalism” point he’s trying to make. After he threw that out, I found myself asking what else I did not know about Gingrich.

ARG South Carolina Poll: Romney 29, Gingrich 25 (Santorum 7)

ARG Florida Poll: Romney 42, Gingrich 25 (Santorum 9)

You are either all-in for Newt or you're okay with, or resigned to, Willard.

In principle, Mitt does not want a Federal version of Romneycare to exist. If Mitt has ever made waffling statements about that, I have missed it. It’s notable from a politician who has waffled on just about everything else.

Gingrich ought to know by now that if you find yourself locked in a loving embrace with the Donks, there are 99 to 1 odds it’s going to turn out to be a great folly.

Here we go again. Another thread that will end up with “negative advertisements”.

Perry, Rick S, Rick P are all better conservatives than Romney. But their respective supporters advance their candidate, not by promoting their candidates’ positives, but inveighing against the other candidates’ purported negatives.

Stop it- lest one come to the only realistic conclusion— that many on the Board are covert GOP Establishment Romney supporters dead set on tearing down all oppostion.

“Notice that they said that we’re now going to get 90 seconds to answer.”

That set a red flag off for me. Newt is the ONE candidate who can talk. I hope he has a good answer to being muzzled.

I am sure that Mitt is being programmed with the 90s answers even now...

Rush Limbaugh is not in the tank for Mitt Romney. What Rush is talking about is “treason” commited by Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry against our free market system. Truth be known, Gingrich and Perry are closer to Obama then Mitt Romney is. IMHO, they should both be thrown out of the Republican Party!!!

Right you are- Rush’s only lament— that the Establishment’s Jeb Bush is not in the running.

Just curious, HiTech. You support Romney? And if so, why?
Belive me, I’m not one of these “zotter” types, I’m just intellectually curious. Thanks.

I agree-—and it’s breaking my heart. I’m listening now, and it surprised me that he found it necessary to come back after an anti-Romney caller in the first hour an inform all of us how Romney donated his inheritance to Brigham Young University.
