Herman Cain to launch 9-9-9 bus tour
Politico ^ | 1/4/11 | Juanna Summers

Herman Cain’s not a candidate anymore, but he’s launching a new bus tour anyway.

The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO announced plans to tour the country to raise support for the “9-9-9” plan that was the star of his aborted presidential run, hoping to rally congressional sponsors for his plan to replace the federal Tax Code with a 9 percent corporate tax, 9 percent personal income tax and a 9 percent national sales tax.

The one-time Republican front-runner announced his “Cain’s Solutions Revolution” during a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity on Wednesday night.

“I started a new movement. The biggest comment I got when I ended my candidacy was to keep 9-9-9 alive. That’s what this is about, and I’m going to keep it alive with what I’m calling Cain’s Solutions Revolution,” Cain said.

“You have a bus,” Hannity interjected.

“Yes, sir. I have a bus with my picture on it,” Cain said, smiling, as Hannity displayed a photo of a vehicle that looked similar to the campaign bus he used on the trail until the day he pulled up in it at the early December rally in Atlanta when he ended his campaign.

The Atlanta businessman said he plans to “get commitments from members of Congress in 2012 before Election Day” and that the legislation is currently being drafted.

Cain’s website to promote his new endeavor, CainConnections.com, is nearly identical to his presidential campaign website, which was still live until recently.

Another website, CainSolutions.com, announced the day Cain ended his presidential bid, has yet to go live.

Cain’s made clear his hopes to stay a part of public life despite departing the presidential race, and as he does, he’ll be pursuing the same outsider, simplifying government themes he pursued while in the GOP race.

“They think we are stupid. You know what comes after a tea party? A revolution. It’s time for history to repeat itself,” Cain says in an introductory video posted on the new website. “We the people are coming and we want our power back. Welcome to the solutions revolution.”

Cain bowed out of the presidential race in early December, saying he did so because of his family. Even then, he vowed not to “shut up, drop out and go away.”

Since ending his presidential campaign, Cain has appeared repeatedly on Fox to provide analysis of the GOP presidential race. However, he is still not endorsing a candidate.

Cain repeated that pledge Wednesday night.

“I will support the Republican nominee. Yes, there are some I would prefer over others, just like you. But I could not, cannot, will not, you know, allow Barack Obama to have a cakewalk back into the White House. That’s what this whole solutions revolution is all about.”

Scorn and contempt.

We see this whenever Sarah Palin makes any news.

Nothing brings out the anger of a FReeper like a former good guy gone bad.

LOL, another non-candidate bus tour.... Sorry Herman, that only worked for Sarah because people thought she might actually be a candidate. It’s not so easy to pull off once you’ve dropped out of a contention.

Besides, it wasn’t that 999 was ever that popular, it was the fact that Cain as a candidate represented the possibility of big, out-of-the-box, non-establishment change. 999 won’t stand on it’s own, and this bus tour isn’t likely to amount to much.

I've watched her on TV six or eight times. Great shows, great music.
But I'll be damned if I can understand a single word she's said.
She'll be missed.

9 girls in the front, 9 girls in the middle, and 9 girls in the back of the bus.

9-9-9 a truly bad idea - introducing a national sales tax BEFORE getting rid of the income tax. Once introduced taxes never go away, they just get bigger. It’s ironic that Herman hangs on to this of all things. Go back to your bimbos Herman, it’s more rewarding for all of us.

Nailed it.

It wasn’t specifically the 9-9-9 formula itself that had me interested in what Cain had to say. It was the fact that he was talking about scrapping the mayhem we have now. And I sensed that he would get the job done. A job that will require a strong leader, strong salesman, and likely - someone who gladly accept the likelihood of 1 term if he/she follows principal over popularity.

Perry had also put together a plan I was more interested in. Haven’t heard a peep about it in weeks, not sure what conclusion to draw there but can say tax policy resonates with me as a voter.

FWIW right now I’m 60/40 on Gingrich vs. Santorum.

I see the local troupe of feces throwing howler monkeys are out in force today. Let me know when he has a schedule out. I’d still like to hear him speak even though I can’t vote for him.

People keep repeating this calumny that Herman Cain has “gone bad”, but where is the honest basis in fact for that?

The Axelrod Chicago tactics seem to have worked pretty well, except that the rest of the United States is not yet Chicago. However, we have some posters here that very much want to believe in “the Chicago way”.

The strategies employed to isolate and strand a candidate in a one-party situation are rather different than when there are two or more actively participating political factions. Herman Cain was subjected to much the same sort of media blitz that was directed against Clarence Thomas, and in the end, the veracity of the female accuser was called into question, not a gentlemanly tactic at all, but the criticism, while stifled, continued in muted tones.

Like Clarence Thomas, the charges against Herman Cain came down to a “she said, he said” exchange, not supported in any way by the known behavior of either man in any other situation. Sharon Bialek is a person of uncertain personal integrity, and when her history is compared to that of Herman Cain, she comes off as being not a credible source, presenting implausible statements. No other even remotely affected individuals stepped forth to support or emphasize the claims, and Gloria Allred is no champion of impartiality.

But the damage was done, and for Axelrod and his gnomes, they could report back to the White Hous, “Mission Accomplished”.

Herman Cain is not a “former good guy”, he is an honest and frankly conservative representative of the American Dream writ large. And you have seen how he has been treated by the regime that now occupies the White Hut. The Soviet Union used to make those who had lost favor into “unpersons”, have a show trial in which the outcome was always in favor of whoever was at the top of the ant hill in the Kremlin, and the unfortunate victim of this persecution was either shot or exiled to Siberia at hard labor.

Is this what we have come to in this country, declaring someone an “unperson” and shunning any and all contact?

If so, maybe we deserve what is coming by allowing this mindset to retain access to power.
