At least someone’s finally going to stick it to Romney.

Looks like friendly old “Uncle Newt” from the debates is going to to transform into “Darth Newt”. Anybody that remembers the Newt of the 1990’s knows he's more the capable of playing dirty hardball with the best of them. Like Rush said, it's not even about Obama anymore, Newts got him sites set on taking out Romney and if he accomplishes that, he will consider it a personal victory.

Newt + open mic + GOP Primary voters watching + grudge against Romney = fun times at the debate Saturday night (unless you are a Romney fan)

Now, this may sink Newt, but at this point I think he would think wrecking Romney’s chances might be worth it.

I agree with Rush. I think the gloves are coming off Sat night at the next debate. Would not miss it for the world. Time to make Mitt sweat a little.

Newt should go after Romney for the lies and smears run to the tune of millions of dollars. Romney is always given a free pass. Why? he gets a slight tap once in a blue moon but he needs some hard knocks! "If Newt can be the guy to really make the case against Romney... Nobody has tried, folks. Romney has not been attacked. We have noted this throughout. The media hasn't attacked Romney; the establishment hasn't attacked Romney. Nobody has, and now Newt can't wait. It's personal. (interruption) I don't know if it'll backfire or not. Who knows? This is the thing! We don't know what's gonna happen with this. Backfire? How can it backfire?" GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NEWT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look. I heard Hannity the other day decrying the "lies" told about Newt in the ads run against him in Iowa. The example Sean gave was that one ad apparently claimed Newt supported "amnesty."

Well, Hell's Bells. You can sit there all you want and talk about a technical definition of amnesty, but the fact is that Newt did propose an immigration policy that allowed illegal immigrants to stay in the U.S. Sorry, Newt, but, rightly or wrongly, that is very easy to characterize as "amnesty," and someone who was truly a savvy politician, as opposed to a motormouth, would know that. It doesn't matter whether it is technically amnesty or not. As presented, it is a policy that many do not agree with.

Moreover, when Newt announced this proposal, he prefaced it by saying something like "I know I'm going to get into trouble [with conservatives] on this." IOW, Newt knew VERY WELL that what he was about to propose could and would be characterized as amnesty, no matter what he said about.

On that basis alone, I think Gingrich -- and Hannity -- gave up any basis whatsoever for complaining about Gingrich's immigration position being characterized as amnesty. Gingrich knew that was going to be a problem and he went there, in the way he did, at the time he did, with the words he did, anyway.

Gingrich took the risk that he would be unable to persuade people that his policy did not amount to amnesty (and regardless of the technical definition thereof), and now he had to pay the piper.

That is all.

And that is typical Newt. Say something in such a way that it requires millions of hours of detailed analysis and explanation to get out the liberal stench that accompanied the original explanation.

And it's true, it's safe to say that Romney's ads took Newt out.

I disagree with this in degree.

You know who took Gingrich out? Michelle Bachmann did, at the final debate in Iowa, Dec. 16th. When she nailed him on his Freddie Mac ties and all he did was stammer around and sputter that "I did not . . . have lobbying relations with . . . that Liberal pet rock . . . Freddie Mac."

Freddie Mac was always going to bite Gingrich on the butt and Bachmann made sure it did.

THAT was the beginning of the possible end for Gingrich. Romney supporters did not start piling on until Gingrich's numbers had already started plummeting.

after watching how pissed Newt was last night, I posted on the live thread that Newt can be the perfect ‘bad cop’ to Santorum’s ‘good cop’. That’s what I think we’re now going to see...

I think Newt ought to lob this one at Mitt-Witt, something like:

"Any dumb ass who straps their Irish Setter up on the ROOF RACK of the station wagon, and keeps their plush luggage INSIDE with the passengers, instead of the other way around, has NO judgment, NO common sense, and has no business running for President, and I call upon the voters to do to Mitt Romney what his Irish Setter did while sailing down the highway on their way to Ontario Canada for a vacation!"(the dog crapped on the car, one of Mitt's kids said "ewww, Dad? what's that brown stuff flying out the back of the car?" TRUE STORY)

I really don’t get it. Rush says he hopes Perry will stay in the race. But he also implies that Romney will benefit if Perry stays in and continues to split the anti-Romney vote.

So what’s going on?

1. Is Rush just being rambling and incoherent?

2. Or is he secretly hoping to boost Romney?

I dont know why people think Newt going after Romney is some big help for Santorum.

I would rather vote for the guy with some fire. Not some impish personality trying to slide in under the radar by not having to confront anyone. Clean hands are what McCain, and Dole were all about.

Like what good will that do in the general election?
What is he going to do, hide off in the corner for 5 months?

Unless one's a Romney supporter, this great news. Even if he loses the nomination, Newt needs to go down swinging at Romney.

It's past time for Romney to be on the receiving end of the manure he likes to sling.

Well it is about time Newt got serious. What I like is that this will force Newt to campaign as a real conservative. Kinda puts his feet in cement so if elected he will be less likely to stray off the reservation. I like a pissed off Newt much more then the gentler kinder Newt. If you are not mad you are not paying attention.
