This whole “story” is a load of BS. Perry is following the pension rules exactly as they were written and intended.

It looks bad because only two of the statewide-elected employees in Texas are eligible, and out of the two, Perry is the only one collecting it. Even the other person said it looked bad.

It strikes me that the number of statewide elected officials even in a big state like Texas is a rather small number to begin with. Then, how many of these statewide elected officials are of an age and length of service to qualify?

It does not really surprise me that there are only two that qualify. Maybe it does "look bad", and it might not play well politically, but is it wrong?

Good thing he doesn’t live in NM.

Also, to be accurate, Perry is retired from his job as a state legislator, so he isn’t “double-dipping” on that account.

Good, then tone deaf double dipping Perry won’t mind paying back 1.2 M in taxpayer funded personal security costs since he’s been on the campaign trail and he can start coughing up the rent money for that empty 600k/year mansion he isn’t living in right now while failing to govern Texas.

Hey..you know nothing about me so stop telling me what to do. I will do what is right not what you think should be done. If it’s a piece of crap, and it’s wrapped in gift wrap, it’s still a piece of shit when you open it.

Reagan was not referring to globalists and it wasn’t a blanket statement that we should keep our mouths shut just because there is an R behind the name. We’ve had just as many asshole ‘R’s contributing to the demise of this once great nation as we have had ‘D’s.

Don’t you dare tell me to chill out. YOU need to become more concerned with principles than with freakin’ letters.

If you have the guts, which you have shown to be in question, listen to this excellent ad by the RSC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wusgcG4rfo

Reagan's words are timeless and apply just as much today as when he was running. The traitors in this clip happen to dem but Reagan would be appalled at McCain, Graham, Brown, ,Mike Castle, Bennet, Mccowski, etc etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

I'll be damn if I sit silently by because some S.O.B. has an R by his or her name.

NO COMPROMISE! Take your 11th commandment and shove it.

YOU shut up unless you have a solution besides the ‘go along to get along’... Like hell I'll do that.

Your rant is not even worth examining. Crony capitalist my ass.

Perry has been over the 13th (THIRTEENTH) largest economy in the world. In case you haven't bothered to read (you can read can't you?) more jobs have been created in TEXAS than the entire US combined in the past 3 years while the Fuhrer has been _resident.

Perry has signed more pro-life legislation than any former a-hole politician resulting in 12 Planned Parenthood abortuaries being shut down due to lack of funding

Perry is STATES RIGHTS (a.k.a. 10th Amendment)

Perry is 2nd Amendment...no compromise...check out the dead coyote that tried to attack his dog while jogging

Perry has signed TORT reform ...a.k.a. LOSER PAYS and is now an enemy of trial lawyers (the man should have a gold star pinned to his chest because of that alone)

Gov. Rick Perry has received the Defender of Jerusalem Award, which is given to public figures who have demonstrated support and commitment to the state of Israel and its capitol, Jerusalem. (2009)

The Texas State Guard (TXSG) is one of three branches of the military forces of Texas, reporting to the Adjutant General, and under the command of the Governor. The other branches of the State Military Forces of Texas are the Texas Army National Guard, and the Texas Air National Guard.[1][2][3

Gov Perry actually served his country in the Air Force and was a Pilot.

Gov Perry is an expert, just by virtue of being in the state of Texas, in the energy industry in his state and is AGAINST cap and trade.

Gov Perry has vowed to repeal the hideous deathcare A.K.A. Obamacare that WILL kill our economy (along with our infirmed), when it's presented to him.

His family (Anita & in-laws are in the medical field...and they KNOW... the damage that socialized medicine will do to this nation)

And on top of everything else? Rick Perry could kick Barack Hussein Obama's ass from coast to coast...figuratively and literally. WHAT THE HELL ELSE DO YOU WANT IN A CANDIDATE?? Really I want to know, just what the hell else it is you people want from a Presidential candidate? You want perfection? Well even if Christ Himself were running there would be some on FR bitching about that 'love your neighbor' thing.

Newt Gingrich? Michele Bachmann? Ron Paul? Please, for God's sake! We need a PROVEN individual...And it sure as hell is not the others in the field.

Let's truly change this course...this is it ...there will be NO DO-OVERS.

Time to GET SERIOUS

To: lonestar; smoothsailing; Outlaw Woman

lonestar,

This was in the news several months ago and looked at again last fall, and you are right... it IS an annuity he is drawing from.

An annuity is an insurance product which has been paid for by the investor (worker-investor), usually by which the worker has had some of their paycheck held back from their income throughout the years, those salary contributions having been placed into investments throughout those years to earn money.

Then, the earnings of that investment can be used for a life insurance benefit, a survivor’s payment, OR it can be used in retirement instead, being paid out in a lump sum or in monthly installments.

It sounds like Governor Perry chose to draw his annuity investment return throughout his lifetime instead of using it as a life insurance payout.

This is no big deal or even unethical action. If our government ever tells us we can not have the income earned through smart retirement planning investments, we are all in deep water.

Wow, someone is in full panic mode!<<>

Panic mode about Newt??? Tha's a hoot. Newt will have to drop out after tomorrow. He's going to come in fifth or sixth...definately bottom tier. He'll have no way and no reason to go on after that.
