While terms such as "socialism," "capitalism" and "progressive" have traditionally elicited strong responses from the American public -- whether it be from conservatives who decry the evils of socialism or liberals who insist capitalism promotes economic inequality -- the recent Occupy Wall Street protests have brought the issue to the forefront of the national conversation in recent months.
Socialism v. Capitalism
Despite, or perhaps because of, some of the protesters' support of democratic socialist policies, socialism remains the most politically polarizing term in the U.S., according to a new analysis of political rhetoric from the Pew Research Center, a fact that has remained largely unchanged since Pew asked the same question in April 2010. In a survey of 1,521 American adults, including 380 Republicans, 489 Democrats and 569 Independents, 60 percent of respondents had a negative reaction to the word "socialism," compared to 31 percent who had a positive reaction.
Pew reports there is a wide difference of opinion among racial, generational, socioeconomic and political lines when it comes to the term socialism. Perhaps unsurprisingly, about 90 percent of surveyed conservative Republicans told Pew they viewed the word negatively, compared to nearly 60 percent of liberal Democrats who reacted positively. Low-income Americans, defined as though making less than $30,000 a year, were also twice as likely to respond affirmatively to the word compared to respondents making over $75,000 per year, while voters over age 65 were the most likely to view the term with disapproval.

Despite the political divides between the terms "liberal" and "conservative," two-thirds of the public reaction to the word "progressive" were positive. While Pew reports there was little difference among Democrats' reaction to liberal and progressive, the discrepancy was clear amongst Republican respondents. Fifty-five percent of Republicans reacted positively to the word, compared to the 20 percent who reacted similarly to liberal. Independents also had a considerably more favorable reaction to progressive (68 percent) than liberal (54 percent.)
Republicans! Unbelievable. No wonder this country is so close to losing her liberty. This is what happens when schools and colleges teach that progressivism is a good thing, despite the fact that historically progressives have long hated the American way of life and our beloved Constitution. Here are some examples:
Progressivism and the origins of the tyrannical administrative state
America is not now and cannot in the future be a place for unrestricted individual enterprise
The Conservation of Business - Shall We Strangle or Control It?
nonsense has been talked about the inalienable rights of individuals
Individualistic ideas are discredited and reputiated
The Dictatorship of the Constitution
And there's much more in the archives. I would hope that everybody would note that all I'm doing is channeling their own words. I would also hope that everybody would note that I'm giving out book titles, speech titles, with links, dates, and page numbers, so that should you want you can take these things and blog about these things yourself you can do so on your own with specificity and force. You can take them and do whatever you want with them, directly sourced, in context.

Liberal/progressives suck.
That’s how you channel communists words.
Pollute the words. Smear the words.
Make the words UGLY.
Don’t adopt them.
Progressive Tax, Progressive Illiteracy, Progressive Poverty, Progressive Enslavement, Progressive Cancer. Progressive Misery.....remember this next time you see a commercial for Progressive Insurance.
The same ideology flying under a flag with different verbiage/
Same thing as the discredited “Global Warming” , morphing into
the milder, and nearly unassailable “Climate Change”. They are one and the same. Old Kool-aid, New Bottles.
Part of the problem is the dual use of the word “progressive.”
It means a general belief in making things better and a particular ideology that claims to do so. I assume even most conservatives are in favor of the first meaning.
Too many conservatives, IMO, are reflexively supportive of “capitalism,” which as with socialism is a group of belief systems rather than a single one.
Unfortunately, the majority of the variants of capitalism involve various degrees and types of government control and/or influence. Fascism, for example, is one type of capitalism, as are the many variants of crony capitalism.

Only free-market capitalism, historically the least common variant, deserves our support. IMO.
Essence of canine panini: positive
Same stuff...new label. Stupid people.
All are Anti-American.
Wake up America!
And leftists not only are not embarrassed at having to change what they are called, they seem to revel in it.
They truly believe that disapproval of their ideology is proof of its superiority.
Socialism, Progressive, Communism...c’est le meme chose!
For a while longer, but just like Communism, Marxism, and now Socialism, progressive and "environmentalist" will come to be highly negative in Joe Ordinary Americans' perception, when he learns their true meaning.
Unfortunately, the leftist slime will never run out of new words that "sound good" at first.
Please put me on the list!
In other news, Gallup reports that 95% of Democrats have a highly positive view of water. But, surprisingly, 63% believe H2O should banned by the EPA.
Progressive always moves TOWARD Socialism...
Progressive NEVER moves toward Conservative!
This is why “most Americans” have purchased the Brooklyn Bridge at one time or another over their lifetime. “Most Americans” aren’t very bright. They don’t like Marxists, Communists and Socialists unless you call them “Progressives”. Then, it’s all good. It’s all in the name.
Back in the 1930's the Communist Party USA realized they'd never win any office running as 'Communist'. So the big-wigs of the CPUSA had a meeting and came up with term 'Progressive' for their candidates. They also realized that of the two established parties, the easiest party to infiltrate with their 'Progressive Candidates' was the Democratic Party.Additionally, in the early days of the Internet the Democratic Socialists of America listed every member of Congress who was also a member of of the DSA. Every one was a democrat and the leader of the DSA in Congress was none other than .....ta-da ..... San Fran Nan! Plus every member of the Congressional Black Caucus was also in the DSA.And lo and behold it worked. Henry Wallace, a 'Progressive', became FDRs Vice President. But Henry couldn't keep his yap shut with his 'Progressive' (Communist) ideas, which spelled doom for FDR's final election so Henry was booted from the ticket and replaced by Harry Truman.
Henry Wallace subsequently ran for POTUS as a 'Progressive', with the full backing and funding of the Communist Party USA. But oddly, he lost [/s].
This info has now all been scrubbed from the DSA website. But a pig with lipstick is still a pig; now they just call themselves members of the 'Congressional Progressive Caucus'. They're still all Communists to the bone, but with a less threatening name.
Here in an old link from 2009 of the 'known members' of the DSA in Congress. It's an 'independent source' I found by Google. Don't know how accurate it is, but it looks correct for the time.
...progressive socialism, progressive Marxism, progressive communism, progressive fascism, progressive election fraud, progressive criminality, progressive taxation, progressive government healthcare, progressive gun control, progressive totalitarianism, progressive oppression, progressive review of all your emails, progressive refusal to comply with the U. S. Constitution, progressive strip searches at the airport, progressive allowances for Islamic adherents to cause problems on airlines without exposure to prosecution, progressive free rides for citizens of other nations, progressive police state, progressive enslavement...
Leftists have to hide their agenda with euphemisms and code words to make them palatable to the sheeple.
Another example is referring to a sales tax or a flat tax as “regressive” while calling a graduated tax (where moochers pay nothing and the most productive pay confiscatory rates) a “progressive” tax.
