So what you're saying is there was a woman involved who may have actually been MORE instrumental in getting him to screw his family than he would have on his own....
From personal observation of my friends' divorces:
(1) First friend, his wife was unhappy with how he wasn't making as much money as she wanted, so she jot a job which would have her meet prosperous men, snagged one, started an affair, divorced my friend, and married her new guy.
(2) Second friend's business went bankrupt, wife immediately divorces him to go look for another man while she was still cute (she failed, wound up 40, single, and unhappy).
(3) Third friend, wife left for another guy.
(4) Another friend, wife liked the "swinging" life, decided to leave to seek fulfillment.
The vast majority of my friends who got divorced, it was due to the wife thinking she could do better.
In the case from the article, the husband was an Iranian Muslim who reacted badly to his wife deciding to divorce him, and he didn't like daughter's boyfriend.
Like Bonnie & Clyde I blame them both. Though she didn’t break any vows.
Congratulations; 15 years here (also first & only wife).
You’re right about an entire industry being set up to help them deal with divorce if they received the same treatment. As it stands, rather than meekly submit, the young men are staying happily single (and often childless), and the angry women reap what they sow, shaking their fists at them (even from the TV screen).
They’ve litigated a culture into extinction.
You are one of the very few posters I not only enjoy reading but also agree with most of the time.
Divorce is hard. I saw my oldest brother go through a very long and antagonistic divorce. This was back when I was a college student and away from the front lines. Prior to that, I sided with my crazy ex sil. It took me a while to realize just how manipulative she was. And how spineless he was in his desire to not hurt the kids and her.
I saw my brother lose everything. His family, kids, and financial security he worked his ass for. To a mentally ill woman who was as sly as a fox. A woman I thought of as a sister since I was 5 years old and my parents considered a daughter. I saw her turn their two sons against our family through it all. It took years for my brother to have have any kind of relationship with his sons and their families. My father’s funeral in 1999 provided an opportunity for my oldest nephew to reconnect with me and it’s been great since. A couple years later, the other son reconnected with us.
My oldest two nephews don’t have any relationship with their mother at all. She failed in that, But they don’t have much relationship with their father, my brother, either. They were doing well for a few years then it collapsed.
But I’ve also known women, friends, who got totally screwed in their divorces. Back in the 80s and 90s.
My brother got totally screwed and part of it was his fault. He didn’t want to be mean to his wife. He didn’t want to turn the kids against her like she was doing. He and my parents thought taking the kigh road would be best. What those kids, now adults, remember, is that no one thought about them.
And my brother took the easy way out by not fighting her. Over 25 yrs later he’s still paying alimony, her presription card, her medical, and his life insurance policy in her name.
It’s crazy.
Well well well look at this http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2825735/posts?page=1
