Harsh Political Reality Slows Climate Studies Despite Extreme Year (running out of loot)

Harsh Political Reality Slows Climate Studies Despite Extreme Year
By JUSTIN GILLIS
Published: December 24, 2011

At the end of one of the most bizarre weather years in American history, climate research stands at a crossroads.

Scientists say they could, in theory, do a much better job of answering the question “Did global warming have anything to do with it?” after extreme weather events like the drought in Texas and the floods in New England.

But for many reasons, efforts to put out prompt reports on the causes of extreme weather are essentially languishing. Chief among the difficulties that scientists face: the political environment for new climate-science initiatives has turned hostile, and with the federal budget crisis, money is tight.

And so, as the weather becomes more erratic by the year, the public is left to wonder what is going on.

When 2010 ended, it seemed as if people had lived through a startling year of weather extremes. But in the United States, if not elsewhere, 2011 has surpassed that.

I'm old enough to remember drought in New England and floods in Texas, as well as drought in Texas and floods in New England, and floods in California, and drought in California, and ice and snow all over the place ~ we once had over a foot of solid ice in our front yard due to something like 21 Alberta Clippers cruising through in winter time conditions. And then, over the last two years we've had 4 feet of snow in this neighborhood TWICE, but not at all this year.

For all the AGW enthusiasts out there these are signs of WEATHER!!

It happens.

MORE Tornadoes from Global Warming? That’s a Joke, Right?

More tornadoes due to “global warming”, if such a thing happened, would be more tornadoes in Canada, where they don’t usually occur. NOT in Alabama.

I see that the NYT not allowing comments on this piece of journalistic fecal material, because it would be ripped several new orifices to leak from if they did.

Wildfires and flooding are not related to climate changes, yet that is what most of what passes for 'substance' of this article.

It has been a great disappointment to global warming fanatics that the hurricane seasons have been so inactive since 2005. That global warming would cause increased hurricane activity has been the essential touchstone of AGW alarmism.

The Leftist 'Old Grey Lady' of journalism is now the official 'crazy aunt in the attic' of public discourse.

If you can understand the Global Warming causes Planetary Cooling concept, you gotta be a Democrat.

And so, as the weather becomes more erratic by the year, the public liberals are left to wonder what is going on..

The rest of us have already figured out that droughts, floods and such are simply happening as they do every year somewhere in the world and it's probably just as accurate to consult a Ouija board as it is a "climate scientist" as to why that is.

I’d think that vast ice sheets rolling down Broadway 18,000 years ago would be pretty significant.

We should ask these scientsts how to combat the next iceage?

Reporters still love to play this game. When weather seems extreme, they will claim it’s due to global warming but when weather becomes the opposite, they’ll claim weather events are not a predictor of climate change. They’ll say this without even blinking their eyes while their pupils spin counter-clockwise.

Lets face it. Many Republicans, Independents, Democrats, no party, etc., had for years been sucked into the AGW/GW phenomena without having a clue as to what represented good science verse contrived for a political/economic purpose.

With the breaking of the secrets two years back, at least now, no one has an excuse once given adequate information so readily available to continue thinking the BS has any merit.

When weather seems extreme, they will claim it’s due to global warming but when weather becomes the opposite, they’ll claim weather events are not a predictor of climate change.

And when the extremes are opposing, droughts verses floods, they still claim Global Warming. That is physically impossible. If the weather is moving to one single extreme (aka Global Warming) you would either get more flooding or more droughts. But you cannot get both. More flooding causes less droughts. More droughts causes less flooding. Simple logic no longer applies when the cronies rule.

But in the United States, if not elsewhere, 2011 has surpassed that.

Absolutely incorrect. The greatest measure of heat in the water and atmosphere is the strength of Hurricanes (barring annual affects from atmospheric wind patterns). We are now approaching the modern record for length of time without a strong Hurricane making landfall within the continental US. So global warming weather extremes cannot be occurring for the past 5 years. In fact, setting the strong Hurricane US no landfall record, requires Global Cooling (ie - lack of energy). Not warming.

Don’t know and don’t care. The warm winter so far has saved me a bundle on heating costs.

Bring on that global warming.

So far it's been a pretty pleasant winter in Minneapolis. That's a good thing, though, after a particularly brutal winter last year and several years of winters of the discomfort persuasion.

If this year were to stay like this and even warm up a bit, it would compare favorably with 1980-81 (right after my son was born. That year we went for walks at parks in the neighborhood, in January, and I needed no jacket. We had my newborn in a stroller with just a simple sweatshirt for warmth.

That was my kind of winter!

The bad part is, these things tend to average out over the long run.

We all owe Andy Watts a lot of respect. He took a lot of threats and hate to stand up for the truth and expose the algore lies. All the media shut out his views but he and others got through to the pulbic anyway.

I feel sorry for young people who majored in climate change enviornmental nonsense when there was a lot of money because a lot of people were fooled - including them. I laugh at limo-pinko global warming’s “investors!”

It irks me that Obama used this fake fear science to shake down the Treasury for kickbacks to his campaign funding pals in the name of alternative energy.
