Romney wants Gingrich to return Fannie, Freddie money
The Hill ^ | 121211 | The Hill

Posted on 12/12/2011 5:10:53 PM PST by Fred

Mitt Romney, calling out Newt Gingrich this morning for his ties to Fannie and Freddie and calling on him to return all the money he got from them.

FOX HOST BRIAN KILMEADE: Do you believe he's a lobbyist and do you believe that since he took from Fannie and Freddie.... do you believe he should give that money back?

ROMNEY: Boy, I sure do.

He was on a debate saying that politicians who took money from Freddie and Fannie should go to jail; I mean, which is outrageous in itself.

But look, he says he was in a consulting business? That's very different than the consulting business other people have been in.

He was in the business of connecting folks with government. He was on K-Street. This was a connection with government kind of business.

Romney is desperate. If I were the Romney family dog...I would run away before “daddy” ties me to the roof of the car.

What Gingrich did with Fannie and many others was legal but corrupt in the sense that it was done within a very corrupt political system. Gingrich was as expert at working that corrupt system as anyone — he helped build it.

Newt Gingrich is a totally corrupt politician who is playing you.

Newt Gingrich will perpetuate the corrupt political system that is ruining our economy, government and country. The Establishment is overjoyed that, with Gingrich or Romney, politicians in Washington D.C. and the rest of the country will continue to feed at the special interest trough.

(Note: Romney is also totally corrupt. He is buying off all the Republican politicians in the early primary states. John Sununu has been totally pushing Romney on TV because Romney literally paid off every Republican politician in New Hampshire by donating to each of their campaign funds.)

he was under contract to grow the size of government? Who knew?

Most people thought the contract was to tell them what they need to change to keep their securities priced well.

At what point did you realize that Fannie and Freddie were corrupt. Was it before Newt?

Classic Newt.

He thinks our corrupt system of politics, the bribery, and the *unholy* alliance between special interests and politicians are legitimate parts of the private sector.

His "consulting" with Fannie Mae and activities like that are legal because politicians like Newt want them to be legal, but they are very much a part of a corrupt political system that we must clean up.

Newt Gingrich is as corrupt as they come.

Newt may be corrupt as you say. But nothing you said has any bearing on that. It’s just your rant.

And I want to a job applying body makeup to SuperModels.......I’m hoping Newt and Romney do poorly in Iowa/New Hampshire and the early primaries so I don’t have to hear these two bicker most of 2012!

At what point did you realize that Fannie and Freddie were corrupt. Was it before Newt?

There were many articles in the early to mid 2000s that exposed the unheard-of amounts of money that Fannie and Freddie were distributing to every politician who would feed at their trough. It was crazy amounts of money.

The corruption of Fannie and Freddie were often discussed on FR in those years.

Don't be stupid, people. This is important. Don't turn a blind eye. Fannie and Freddie were not paying these politicians for "consulting," and surely not for consulting to tell them what they were doing was wrong. These were very sophisticated and slimy people who, believe me, did not need consulting on the issues. Don't be stupid.

Newt was at the head of the line, elbowing himself to maybe the best position to feed at the trough. One of his loyal allies and aides -- Arne Christianson -- was the main lobbyist for Fannie and worked himself up to Fannie Mae's Senior Vice President for Regulatory Reform, where his main job was to lobby every politician in sight to implement favorable regulations (i.e. no regulations) for Fannie and Freddie. .

Just like Romney to attack the conservative Newt who made a lousy mil off a consulting contract and not say anything about Franklin Raines who walked away with $80 million from inflating his stats with junk mortgages. Just like you too, Fred.

Well, yeah. Newt was corrupt way before I started posting about it on FR.

But at least your agree that Newt might be corrupt.

It's a start.
