Perry Could Rise in Iowa, Polling Data Shows

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, whom some pundits had written off as the GOP's nominee, may find a second coming in Iowa, if new poll data holds up.

As Mitt Romney's campaign has suffered a startling decline in recent weeks, only to see Newt Gingrich eclipse the former Massachusetts governor's front-runner status, the battle for the Iowa caucuses set for Jan. 3 has become a wide-open race.

New survey data prepared for the Perry campaign and shared by a source close within the campaign shows that the Texas governor may be poised to do much better in next month’s Iowa caucuses than earlier polls predicted.

The survey by the Austin, Texas-based Baselice & Associates firm shows Perry firmly in third place with 13 percent — trailing Gingrich’s 29 percent and Romney's 19 percent. The poll was conducted Dec. 3-4.

But the internal polling data shows that Perry’s “strongly positive” rating has jumped 6 points since the firm’s previous Iowa survey, just three weeks ago.

And, significantly, Perry’s positive rating among likely Iowa caucus-goers is at a commanding 67 percent. And a stellar 71 percent view him positively after having seen one of his commercials.

Other numbers that suggest a potential rise: Perry stands at 78 percent positive among self-identified tea party members, according to the survey.

But he also enjoys strong support among Iowa’s undecided voters, at 71 percent............

Perry TV Ad: I Can Defend Faith from Obama’s “War on Religion" …….."I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage," says Perry in the new ad titled "Strong."….

Pro-life, pro-Perry “Texas Gov. Rick Perry picked up an endorsement yesterday [Dec. 6, 2011] from Kurt Wuelper, the president of New Hampshire Right to Life.

"I know that Gov. Perry unequivocally believes that life begins at conception and does not waver in his protection of the unborn, unlike some self-professed pro-life candidates," Wuelper said in a campaign release. "But more than just talking the talk, Rick Perry has shown he is a man of strong faith and strong action."

Wuelper added, "He doesn't just fight against abortion, Gov. Perry fights for life. His dedication to providing assistance to pregnant women and encouraging them to choose life makes him exactly the kind of positive leader I want in the White House."

I suppose he could. So could Santorum, Bachmann and Huntsman. Iowa and New Hampshire voters regularly compete with each other to see who has a more inflated sense of self-importance.

Who wouldnt rather see a Perry-Gingrich competition, rather than one with Romney in it? .. Perry is the closest to a traditional conservative; certainly when compared to the other two.

Hmmm. A states-rights federalist vs. a TR-throwback GOProgressive like Newt. That’s a no-brainer, I’ll choose the federalist.

I’m serious... I think Perry has Alzheimers or MS or has mini-strokes.

He can’t communicate.

The poll shows that overall, 67 percent of respondents (75 percent leaning toward Gingrich) say they could change their minds.

I expect Perry will get a second look once Newt flames out.

For all of his flaws, he may be our best bet.

“There are already guns on campus. All too often they are illegal,” Republican Gov. Rick Perry said. “I want there to be legal guns on campus”

Gingrich stood shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Pelosi to pass the “Criminal Safezones Act” which prevents armed citizens from defending themselves in certain arbitrary locations.

I’ll take the 2nd amendment guy anyday.

I think Perry has Alzheimers or MS or has mini-strokes.

He has the occasional cogent moment.. Thing is,IMO, he would be a decent President, relying on an adult staff with some sort of constancy of outlook. God knows the other two will break your heart.

He can’t communicate.

When have you listened? If during debates, they aren't for communicating.

If you compare Perry to Mitt or Newt, depends if you want a smooth talker who tells you what you want to hear to a guy who tells it like it is!

I'll take the much maligned Perry.

I have known some mighty smart people who were top grade students but froze when they had to take a test. It happens. They dealt with it.
Perry does fine most of the time.
