Newt Needs Cain to Hang Around
Fox News ^ | December 2, 2011 | Chris Stirewalt

Posted on 12/02/2011 1:34:58 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

...The trouble for Gingrich is that Cain isn’t doing what Perry is and hanging on. Cain maintained his Real Clear Politics Average high-point of 26 percent, essentially tied with Mitt Romney, for only two weeks. And he may go front frontrunner to hash mark in less than a month.

Gingrich would have been better off if Cain’s candidacy would have slowly withered. Gingrich wants to be in a two-way race with Romney and to have only to appear more conservative and more consistent than Romney.

Gingrich might survive daily releases of new skeletons from his past...[snip]....But only if juxtaposed as a binary choice with Romney.

Gingrich the known commodity looks good when the only other contender on the right is the rotting hulk of the Cain campaign, but if Cain is out of the picture..there’s still time for conservatives to reconsider their pick.

With Cain leaving...there is a chance that some other candidate will rise, or rise again, to rival Gingrich. It could be Rick Santorum’s turn on the horse or perhaps the start of a strange new romance among some conservatives for Jon Huntsman, whom many seem to think is more consistent than Gingrich and more conservative than Romney. And for those resigned to a Romney nomination, a protest vote for Ron Paul may look increasingly attractive.

But Perry looks like the best bet to challenge Gingrich. He’s got the money and the personnel and, thanks to being the governor of the state with the most Republicans, has a pretty durable core of national support. He may be too badly damaged by his debate blunders and the Social Security scare tactics employed by the Romney campaign to make it stick, but Perry looks to be the guy who will give Gingrich a run for his money.

Wait....didn’t this headline run last week with Mitt’s name in front?

Well Huntsman may surge if Romney gets out after NH but he isn’t going anywhere.

I saw that!! Romney’s staffers didn’t want to see Cain go because he was holding Perry down.

Newt will soon poll at double MittWitt’s level...among likely primary voters.

I actually like Perry more than Newt, but he lacks essential skills.

Maybe with his daughters...

The headline is correct. But the article doesn’t support the headline.

Newt needs Cain all right. Cause after Cain is gone.... All the negative attention will focus on Newt being the adulterer instead of Cain.

I neither support nor oppose Huntsman. But I do oppose reading one of the scummiest remarks ever regarding a decent man like this.

yep..

I’d bet big money Gingrich knows more of the details of Perry’s issues than Perry does

" It could be Rick Santorum’s turn on the horse "

It's spreading....

I don't know if that remark is out of line. As a Conservative, I find his daughters far more appealing than Huntsman himself. They are hot and in interviews they are a lot more lively than their stick in the mud old man.

Other than his economic plan, Huntsman is a real RINO dud.

My thoughts exactly! At least Cain (even assuming the worst) has managed to stay married to the same woman. Heck, even Clinton managed to do that.

They look of age, but maybe not. You’re certainly welcome to “report abuse.”

For others, they can go to this post and judge for themselves:

As I have argued with you from the start, attrition is Ricks best friend.

Santorum 2012

Well I would argue Perry has the essential skills to govern our nation out of this mess.

My question to you is, how good of a pick is Newt if Obama refuses to debate? 1 billion to spend on a treasure trove of Newt baggage, and Newt himself is not even that likeable.

Well, if Newt can hurry up and self-destruct, Santorum ought to be next in line. I suppose he has a shot. But if Perry and Gingrich stay in, he's not gonna have the juice.

I've never bothered to consider if I could vote for Santorum. I won't waste any thought on it until it seems warranted.

They ARE of age!
...Mary Anne, age 26, Abby, age 25, and Liddy, age 22 have tirelessly taken to the campaign trail on behalf of their dad

Nothing scummy about them or my remark.

Obama will never debate Newt.

Lets hope Newt can score points making Zero look like a sniveling coward because of his refusal.

Like telling Zero he can use a teleprompter and choose 3 people to feed him hints while the debate rages on. He still would refuse to debate.
