As a rule, brokered conventions do not produce winning candidates. But it may well happen this time because Romney simply cannot close the deal with rank-and-file GOP primary voters. He cannot rise above 25% support with consistency, while a parade of “I’m-Not-Romney”s passes by with each coming and fading in turn. I can see with increasing confidence how we might reach August with no certain nominee. After that, all bets are off.

Sure seems so.

Yup, I'm thinking the fix is in, too. Hope I'm wrong.

Since Frank Luntz has recently done several focus groups where Romney was clearly NOT the frontrunner when he polled the group, it very well might have been a tongue in cheek “slip”.

Only a conservative can beat Romney. Newt will be beaten like a drum. On the issues they are the same, but Newt has the personal baggage and no money.

Neither Luntz nor any other analyst can tell us WHY a guy who only pulls 20% of the Republican base can get the nomination.

The establishment offers us a slick Blueblood RINO or an articulate Post-Reagan RINO.

OTOH, the anti-establishment has offered us what?

Sarah shrugs and doesn’t even bother.

Ryan, Rubio, West, etc also give us a “thanks but no thanks”.

Cain has attracted a circus, whether he’s the ringleader or not.

Perry was situated to bridge the gap and he fell into the gorge.

A Romney nomination means that out of 300 million people, conservatives cannot field a viable 21st century Reagan.

Team Sarah and Donald are sounding good about now. If that is too much to hope for, my thought is that once the dust settles in the voters, Rick Perry will move up and take the nomination. Perfect, no, but which one of them even comes close to that?

Same thing happens every primary. Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain were all "chosen" by the GOP establishment and promoted as the nominee.

The GOP establishment always chooses the "safe" candidate who does little more than manage the decline. They are not bat-guano crazy like the democrats, but neither are they competent to set policy for the long term.

The GOP establishment doesn't want a candidate that will upset the NYT editorial page too much.

Romney is the Establishment Candidate, period.

He's been promoted 24/7 for the past two years by the State-Run-Media, and ANY Conservative threat is immediately shredded by the smear campaigns and constant non-sourced allegations and garbage-tossing Liberals.

Make no mistake; Romney will be the winner, come Hell or high water.....

I believe that Rommney will be the nominee also. He is the choice of the Country Club Republicans, the Rockfeller Republicans, the Beltway Republicans, and the Establishment Republicans and whatever else they are called. I do know that I will not vote for him. And I do believe that should he be the nominee, obama will be guranteed a second term. But time will tell. The way things are going, there may not even be an election in 2012. obama may declare himself occupier of the White House for life. And should he do so, who in Congress will oppose him?

Here are all of the reasons to support Governor Romney. Each is more persuasive than any of the others. On the other hand, why bother? /sarc

Sarah shrugs and doesn’t even bother.

The very fact that she still exists has created a vacuum in the GOP, which is exactly why all we get are "flavors of the week."

There will be a brokered convention, and Sarah will play a pivotal role.

It wouldn't surprise me if she planned it this way.

In 2008 Mittens couldn’t beat a Maverick...in 2012 he won’t be able to defeat a Grinch!

Newt is leading Mitt in the polls in Iowa and South Carolina by double digits. The endorsement in NH yesterday shows that Romney is in trouble. That is why the establishment republicans are in an all out mode to claim Romney is the most “electable” candidate.

Luntz is a little fat boy with a new toy that thinks he knows something. Getting 25 people to move a dial doesn’t tell me squat. Did you ever see some of the ‘brain scientists’ he has on those panels? They couldn’t find water if they were in a boat.

Luntz is a little lefty who has to pretend to be neutral now that his focus groups have made him rich. He hasn’t got a clue who’s going to win the GOP nomination.
