Dow, S&P Log Worst Thanksgiving Week Since 1932 (CNBC)

Stocks closed in negative territory in thin, shortened trading Friday as investors were reluctant to go long ahead of the weekend and amid ongoing worries over the euro zone.

The Dow and S&P posted their worst Thanksgiving week since the Great Depression on a percentage basis.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average erased their gains to finish lower, led by H-P [HPQ 25.39 -0.39 (-1.51%) ] and Chevron [CVX 92.29 -1.46 (-1.56%)].

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also ended lower, logging a seventh consecutive decline. Some traders are watching for 1,150 on the S&P as the next key level.

The CBOE Volatility Index, widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, ended above 34.

Among key S&P sectors, consumer staples and utilities led the gainers, while energy and techs lagged.

Thanksgiving: a good day for having burritos, until we see the real USA again. Onward through the default to smaller government. ;-)

And no, globalist, bipartisan socialists can’t scare anyone with the “money printing” canard. That’s part of the fun (see revenue-sucking parasites and pensions). The big, bipartisan, socialist government that we already have can’t get any worse. It can’t sustain bigness without a currency of value (see dollar collapsing tomorrow) or a large manufacturing base (gone).

Only those able and willing to do real work will rebuild, when the regulations and trash are out of their way.

However, I do worry we may be on a perfect repeat of the 1930's--economic depression, increased political extremism and in the end, a general world war.

Yes, and don't forget "technocracy"--that contemporary linguistic activism and revisionism often used out of context to warn us against those terrible brutes (healthy, heterosexual, technical Americans) running the much smaller and more honest government of tomorrow.

Maybe this crisis will finelly force the world to confront the fact that too much nanny state government and business-unfriendly taxation hurts economies in the long run.

Interestingly, I think the USA is one country that could come out of the current economic malaise quite well. Our access to local natural resources and an unmatched ground transportation infrastructure is the seeds of a major economic revival for our country.

December is going to be brutal.

But, if you know how, a small fortune can be made on the misery of others, which is the always the best way.

I can testify. My company has hired exactly 2 new seasonal, part-time people this year. I guess we look better on paper as we hired back part-timers that work for us each SEASON, but we’re not creating any ‘new jobs’, either.

And those of us that still have our ‘old jobs’ are VERY THANKFUL this year!! :) *Happy Dance*

My company as a whole is doing great. We ratcheted down the hiring, the spending, liquidated inventory, etc. two years ago. We even turned a profit this year. Those businesses that didn’t do any or all of the above are pretty much screwed.

And I truly see Dopey Changey getting re-elected. I’m not impressed with any of our candidates to any great extent. Oh, I’ll hold my nose and vote for (Fill In The Blank) as I did for Sarah & McCain, but Jeeze Louise! Throw me a BONE, GOP! Yeesh!

He won’t be re-elected. His policies and fear of more of them won’t allow certain economic numbers to improve to the point required for any incumbent to be re-elected. And, much worse things could happen at any moment, the whole world is a house of cards at this point.

They kept re-electing FDR too. He was their hero-demigod. He kept the depression going until he was dead. What a hero.
