Think carefully about what Newt said. He said,
"Is it inhumane to deport an illegal immigrant who came to the United States 25 years ago,"
Why did he choose 25 years ago and not 20 or 30.
People assume that 25 years was just a number that Newt pulled out of his ass.
It is not.
Think back about about what happened 25 years ago.
That would be 1986.
That was the year Ronald Reagan's bill gave amnesty to the then current residents in exchange for sealing the border.
The border wasn't sealed and millions more Mexicans and other poured over the border.
The people who came after 1986 were illegal. But the people who came before 1986 were legalized if they bothered to come forward.
So Newt is talking about a law that is already on the books.
They promised us in 1986 that that would be the last Amnesty.
Ted Kennedy promised Reagan if he signed it it would be the last Amnesty ever.
The Government failed to seal the borders and deport new illegals for 25 years.
This isn’t about what Reagan did 25 years ago, and it isn’t about what the ‘Rats failed to do (SEAL THE BORDER) in exchange for that legislation that Reagan signed off on.
So are you suggesting that we should let all illegals who entered AFTER 1986 just make themselves at home, and give them amnesty?
If that was his intent, he had plenty of time to clarify that. I didn’t hear any clarification from him.
Excellent Observation.
The 25 year number is pure proof he wants a new round of amnesty.
Newt can’t see that the immivation is an existential issue for the USA? I’m done with him.
So it's inhumane to deport those who choose to remain illegal 25 years ago?
The last thing this country needs is another nuanced professor at the helm.
Nobody has said that...'cept you!
Now, do you really think that's what he's suggesting. I mean, that is what Newt's saying, but I certainly didn't understand the poster's comment to mean that. How did you ever arrive at that conclusion?
I agree with Newt.
F That if the fedral goverment did its job in the first place in 1986 you wouldn’t have this dilemma.
Look if someon came here illeagally and was a good person and acclimated self to American way of life 25 years ago
Everyone else can get the hell out.
This has to be looked at by case by case issue.
Thats like a city who dosen’t enforce a parking violation to suddenley tell you that you owe for the last 25 years.
I agree on a human basis with Newt idea.It is the American way.
“Think Carefully about what Newt Said”
*****************
Never fear, there may even be...several or more actual “thinkers” out there/here...for all the good it does...
...some may even take note of what he didn’t say...
Semper Watching!

See my #14.
Hogwash! Ignoring lawbreakers, giving preferences to criminals, and pandering to minorities is the democRat way.
Good analogy.
I also think Gingrich deserves credit for being the only one to offer specific suggestions for dealing with the "backlog" and offering a way forward that won't involve doing the same old thing all over again. If people disagree, they should offer their own suggestions, not just proclaim their support for a system that has clearly not served anybody - the immigrants themselves, their communities, or the economy - for the last 25 years.
I don’t find Newt’s statement at all “nuanced”. I understood it as it was presented.
Newt revealed his true beliefs, and now must deal with it. The Pied Piper finally stopped playing his pretty tune and opened his coat, and the children saw a knife, and will run like hell. The spell is broken. The base is no longer hypnotized by the brilliant professor. Newt’s honeymoon is officially over. Look for polling charts that resemble waterfalls in the days and weeks to come.
The 1986 law should be declared null and void since a major part of it (sealing the border) was not fulfilled in exchange for the foolish granting of amnesty.
