Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney seesaw in South Carolina, New Hampshire polls
Politico ^ | 11/22/2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 11/22/2011 12:12:05 PM PST by TBBT

There's no doubt the Newt Gingrich surge is real, and it's apparently spreading to South Carolina - with new private polling showing the former House Speaker leading Mitt Romney and Herman Cain, another southerner, by a 2-to-1 margin. Continue Reading

The numbers from Kellyanne Conway's Polling Company show Gingrich getting 31 percent, while Cain gets 17 percent and Romney gets 16 percent. No other hopeful cracked double digits (Rick Perry was the closest, with 6 percent).

In the second-choice balloting there, Gingrich did best, 22 percent to Cain's 18 percent, and Romney's 16 percent. Perry is in fourth place, at 12 percent, among "second choices."

In New Hampshire, the situation is flipped - Romney getes 35 percent, with 20 percent of that support a hard "yes."

Gingrich places second there, with 18 percent, and Ron Paul is in third place at 10 percent. Huntsman is at 9 percent, Cain 8 percent, Perry and Michele Bachmann both get 4 percent, and Rick Santorum gets 2 percent.

In second-place balloting in New Hampshire, Gingrich and Romney are essentially tied - 22 percent for the former House Speaker and 21 percent for the former neighbor-state governor. No other candidate broke 10 percent on the second-choice question.

Its going to be a lot easier to vote for Newt than it was for McStain. In fact Newt or Herman either one.

you think that Newt is as susceptible as Mittens

That's not what I said. I said he supported the same thing as Romney, which is true. Of course, if I'm not mistaken, Newt favored the individual mandate at the federal level, which is worse than Romneycare, and worse than what Romney is proposing.

I am saying Newt on policy is just as bad and in some cases worse than Romney. Whether or not he is susceptible depends on how badly the Tea Party wants to let Newt pull the wool over their eyes.

When we mention that Perry was a Democrat 20 years ago, its supposed to matter, but when we say that Newt made some great accomplishments 15 years ago, it doesn’t?

Newt didn’t accomplish all that much. Those balanced budgets were phony, for starters. The increase in revenues was a Greenspan bubble and a tech boom, not any real hard choices by government. And in the end, Newt got PWNED by Slick Willie and lost the speakership.

Here in conservative South Carolina it's Cain all the way...Newt as a Georgia boy neighbor may have a shot but Mitt is as well liked as General Sherman.

We still have an open primary so the Dems could give it to Mitt if they are properly organized—yet we also have a very large social conservative black population who may want to fix the mistake they made with Obama by voting for a real American black man this time.

Regardless, on January 21, 2012, we will elect the next President of the United States.

This is BS. I live in SC. This state is in the Cain column. Had to do some real creative statisticsl “analysis” to come up with that crap. SC is a Bible Belt state, for God’s sake. Doing religion here is a highly competive endeavor. Churches and synogogs abound which a of of people attend church/synogog, go to Sunday School and support local charities regualrly.

This poll wants me to believe all these religious folks will just ignore Newt’s three marriages—not to mention all the other RINO stuff he’s engaged in and not to mention his foundation being paid for global warming conslulting to the AOnada regime.

As for Romney—there is no one in the South in his/her right mind that will vote for anyone who supports Onada/Romney care.

Actually, I won’t stay home. I will vote for the other people on the ticket. ESPECIALLY ALL THOSE GOOD CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES THAT WE HAVE BEEN ELECTING HERE IN ALABAMA. You want Romney, you can have Obama lite all you want. I will not vote for him. You have your choice and I have mine. So you use yours.

The individual mandate is just one component of Obamacare, and the balance of Obamacare and its similarities to Romneycare there is no equivalence between the two.

I agree there is no comparison. Newt advocated for an individual mandate at the federal level, which is far worse than anything Romney did, and much closer to Obamacare.

That's my only point. Newt is as bad and in some cases worse than Romney. But, Newt is the place to go now I guess. Cain, who previously singled out Romney as one of his favorites, got chummy with Newt, so that must mean Newt's ok.

You are one of only 110 to 120 million voters. Your vote won’t matter anyway, plus as a bonus, I won’t have to read your posts.

Sorry, but this whole debate last night was engineered to hurt Newt - the one the media fears most. All of you here complaining about him are giving the MSM a victory.

Newt was hardly called upon to answer questions - he could have knocked most of them out of the park. The focus was mostly on Paul to make it appear that he is “coming back.”

The few questions he was asked were designed to damage him - an assault by Wolf Blitzer, whom we know came into the debate with the intent to damage Newt.

The bottom line is that, like it or not, Newt is far better than Obama and the best of the field that can actually win the primary. Shhhhhh... don’t tell the MSM...

And, as someone has already mentioned, 25 years is not an arbitrary number... 1986 was the year Reagan granted “Amnesty,” even though he was duped. So, the people Newt was talking about are already legal under Reagan’s law.

I’m not sure any more where to rank them.

As for electability they both have issues.

Romney is very arrogant too but hides it better. Notice how he smirks at the candidate standing next to him at every debate. He always looks like he’s holding in a scoff.

Gingrich at least was never an outright liberal like Romney. So I like him better, I guess. ;/ Blah.
