Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney seesaw in South Carolina, New Hampshire polls
Politico ^ | 11/22/2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

There's no doubt the Newt Gingrich surge is real, and it's apparently spreading to South Carolina - with new private polling showing the former House Speaker leading Mitt Romney and Herman Cain, another southerner, by a 2-to-1 margin. Continue Reading

The numbers from Kellyanne Conway's Polling Company show Gingrich getting 31 percent, while Cain gets 17 percent and Romney gets 16 percent. No other hopeful cracked double digits (Rick Perry was the closest, with 6 percent).

In the second-choice balloting there, Gingrich did best, 22 percent to Cain's 18 percent, and Romney's 16 percent. Perry is in fourth place, at 12 percent, among "second choices."

In New Hampshire, the situation is flipped - Romney getes 35 percent, with 20 percent of that support a hard "yes."

Gingrich places second there, with 18 percent, and Ron Paul is in third place at 10 percent. Huntsman is at 9 percent, Cain 8 percent, Perry and Michele Bachmann both get 4 percent, and Rick Santorum gets 2 percent.

In second-place balloting in New Hampshire, Gingrich and Romney are essentially tied - 22 percent for the former House Speaker and 21 percent for the former neighbor-state governor. No other candidate broke 10 percent on the second-choice question.

Geezus. If Romney or Newbie is the only two left standing, then I guess I am missing the election. I have NOTHING for either of them, they don’t believe in anything that I believe in, both are RINOs in my opinion, Newbie has tons of baggage WHICH the leftist MSM will blast the airways with this garbage if he is the one. You will hear daily about his baggage. The message will be totally lost. And I refuse, flat refuse to vote for Romney. PERIOD.

Yes, when you buy a poll you should get the results you pay for, I remember the Wilson poll for perry that had him winning Iowa. Where is that poll today.

No, just another no name polling group trying to make perception reality. Apparently Newt is spending his money buying polls

Talk about push polling. According to this not only is Newt the break away front runner, he is also the favorite "2nd choice" of the same people who picked him as their 1st choice.

She's a Republican Pollster.

Which tells me that this is paid for by a campaign.

I agree with you. Actually, I think Romney is a BETTER choice than Gingrich. On the issues, they are indistinguishable. Romney is just as good a debater, and has less personal baggage to answer for.

With those two choices, there will be a lot of people writing in or staying home.

“With those two choices, there will be a lot of people writing in or staying home”. Sharp move. Another reason why the pubs truly are the stupid party.

Mitt the stuttering boob against Newt, the most clear-spoken candidate.

I'm probably in the minority on FR, but I agree with you and rank Newt below Romney. They're both RINO sellouts who know how to talk conservative but suck up to liberals and would drive over their own grandma to get votes. The main difference is Romney is much more personable and has far less scandals. Voters can't stand Newt regardless of how effective he is at debating. Pretty much if we nominate Newt, we guarantee Obama a second term.

I can’t believe we are about to nominate Newt fricking Gingrich and he is probably the best choice. I will need to be convinced not to either sit this one out or vote for a 3rd party. I am sure as heck not excited.

Thing are looking good, very good.

I’m looking forward to poll updates, now that Huckabee has decided that he wants to be Romney’s little friend.

What you are seeing is the whipsawing of conservatives to ANYONE but Romney. First it was Perry, then it was Cain, now it's Newt.

Personally, I think Newt is miles ahead of Romney, who would be my vote only as the last man on my side of the ticket. ABR, but after that, it's ABO. And, yes, that includes Newt.

Judging by anti-Obama gear sales, I don't think any Republican will lose to the tyrant.

You mean other than Obama thanking Mitt for Romneycare as the blueprint for Obamacare ... nah, that will never come up in the campaign.

BTW, Mittens is NOT a good debater (go back to 2008 for proof). He is the only candidate that has gotten the velvet glove treatment from the press so far, which is why he appears to be “good”. Thing about the velvet glove is, it is removed in the general election. Newt has already shown he can battle the “iron fist” ... Mittens has not.

But you know that Obama is going to pull out all the stops on this one...it'll be the dirtiest, most dishonest campaign in the history of the country. If Obama loses, he'll probably have to leave the country to avoid indictment.

As Chris Rock summed up Obama's second term (which will begin with the campaign)..."He's gonna go gansta! We don't want justice...we want retribution!" (I paraphrase).

To cure the pain, vote for Herman Cain. Don’t let Fox and the media tell you who the “best” candidate is.
