Spot on... The difference between what’s coming in a few short years and the ‘30s is that now we are inescapably indebted. At least, in the ‘30s we were a creditor nation and had the resources to support deficit spending.

What we’ve got here is analogous to a great global poker game where one of the people at the table (ChiComs) has eleven kids at home to feed and is soley reliant on winnings from the table to do that. And another player (House of Saud) is deep in hock to mafia loan sharks who are gong to kill him if he does not keep coming away from the game with enough winnings to keep paying them off.
Those players are obviously hoping to keep the game rolling at all costs.

I was afraid of this. After most of a day of the media blaming the market decline on the super committee, Baucus has announced that the committee is reconvening to consider some new ideas. The GOP may yet fold on the issue of raising taxes.
