Feds hold up (Texas) Voter ID law, want more information
Houstaon Chronicle ^ | Nov 17, 2011 | GARY SCHARRER, AUSTIN BUREAU

The Texas voter ID law, one of Gov. Rick Perry's top priorities during the 2011 Legislature, has been stalled by the U.S. Justice Department, which is insisting on demographic information about voters that state election officials say is virtually impossible to provide.

Texas Republicans expressed dismay Thursday after Justice Department officials said they need voter information about race and ethnicity before they can approve the controversial law, which is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1.

Republicans pushed the Voter ID measure to ensure all voters are properly identified and eligible to vote.

The new law would require voters to show a Texas driver's license, a Texas concealed handgun license, a U.S. passport, citizenship papers, or a military identification card before they could cast a ballot.

Why don't people give credit to Rick Perry for this, while they are bashing him for the in state tuition for children of illegals that was past virtually unanimously by the Legislature?

This is a state issue. What does the DOJ have to do with it?

U.S. Justice Department ... folks, with the rabid racist Holder running the place it is anything but a Justice Department. Elections have consequences. When people elect a race hustling community organizer, he will bring his criminal consortium along to power.

In my Ohio neighborhood, we have to produce a form of identification (usually a driver's license) to vote.

Seems fair, one man one vote.

Federal court issues new political maps for Texas

http://www.chron.com/news/article/Federal-court-issues-new-political-maps-for-Texas-2274806.php

“A federal court on Thursday issued temporary political maps for the 2012 election in Texas that some say will give Democrats a greater chance of winning seats in the Legislature.

The maps, which still must be given final court approval, will remain in place for state House and Senate districts until there is a resolution to lawsuits filed over the Legislature’s proposals - likely through the 2012 elections. The court is expected to also release a proposal for new congressional districts.

Republicans have acknowledged they are not likely to hold on to the 101-49 supermajority they have in the Texas House. Still Democrats argue that the GOP map drawers went too far in trying to preserve their power.”

Bureaucracy at its finest. I’m sure it doesn’t exactly help relations that Perry is a GOP presidential hopeful, but Obama would hate Texas anyhow.

Some federal bastard that I didn't elect is drawing a map that shows my state representation? Oh.. hell no. They need to step careful, because they are on thin ice.

Hand them the 2010 census. If it is good enough for them, it’s good enough for me.

I will give him credit, but it’s about time. We have had a voter ID law in Michigan for over 15 years.

Unfortunately, with Eric Holder running the DOJ, it’s all about race and politics.

You want to make the job of stealing votes more difficult? Obama and his Acorn buddies will not stand for this law.

The renewal of the Voting Rights Act was one of the least forgivable acts of President Bush and the last Republican Congress. The saddest thing is that it passed with barely a peep from southern Republicans.

Who the **** does Holder think he is? This is a Texas thing. If Holder wants illegal aliens to vote, he needs to tell them to go the hell home to Mexico and vote there. The bass turd really needs to be in jail. He’s the most corrupt bass turd to ever hold that job. Put his ass in jail!

It had nothing remotely due to factual circumstances, commonsense or conservatism.

The Perry bashing was for similar purpose by at least two groups. One to benefit Mitt and two to benefit at least one of the candidates lower in the polls, with lots of Palinistas joining in. Plan worked.
