Contagious Dog Disease Spreads at Occupy SF

Don't bring your dogs to Justin Herman Plaza, Occupiers.

Three dogs residing at the Occupy SF encampment by The Embarcadero have tested positive for a highly contagious disease called the parvovirus, according to the San Francisco Examiner.

The San Francisco SPCA and city Animal Care and Control visited the camp on Monday to offer free veterinary service to the dozens of dogs at the camp, according to the newspaper. Some dog owners took their pooches to the makeshift vet; others accused officials of spreading bad publicity.

Parvovirus results in vomiting and bloody diarrhea, according to the newspaper.

The parvovirus isn't the only affliction to have befallen dogs at the camp, the SPCA says -- kennel cough, a highly contagious respiratory illness, is likely flourishing as well.

Sounds like Animal Cruelty to me. WHERE is the Humane Society?

Better yet WHERE is PETA?

I could careless about these human losers. Their dogs are a different story. I hope the dogs get the help they need. I have a soft space for the animals.

I won't walk my dogs past the OccupyOC crowd at Irvine city hall because they will get fleas.

Vaccines can prevent this! Sounds like uncaring owners to me.

Parvo is a terrible disease. I’m surprised the dogs haven’t been vaccinated for it. Last I saw, it was mandatory in AZ.

Occupiers are totally irresponsible in every aspect of their lives.

I hope PETA takes note of this and wreaks vengeance as only they can.

The answer to every problem in life to a liberal, have the Government offer free services.

” I’m surprised the dogs haven’t been vaccinated for it.”

Rich vaccine companies make a profit from those vaccines. The OWS people are standing for economic justice and won't put money in the pockets of big companies.
They have principals to uphold.

We adopted a German Shorthair Pointer from an animal rescue and the poor thing came down with Parvo (24 hours after we brought her home). I have truly never seen such a sick animal. Her litter mates contracted it as well and had to be put to sleep. Most dogs are vaccinated against it (or should be). The vet told us that it is usually contracted via eating infected poop (which made sense since she had been abused and was skinny as a rail). They usually put the infected animals into isolation since it is extremely infectious.

Exactly why we don’t have pets in our home. It’s hard enough to stay in control of human germs.

Call it 'animal cruelty' and get these people out of there; and their animals. Am not sure when it is that 'health threats' and just public safety; finally matter; and/or a soft terrorism becomes the recognizeable MO of these derelicts; degenerates and 'displaced'. Useful idiocy abounds here.
