That is just scary...we can’t have that in a debate against Obama...the press would destroy him and paint him as 5 times the dunce the painted Bush......

I love the way Perry is able to laugh at himself and that he is human. Makes all the others appear so robotic.

Of course it matters. Perry is finished. He needs to drop out gracefully over the next week or two.

Look Perry just can’t go the full distance in debates. So he goes for a good 5 or 6 innings, tires and then send in his relief debator.
Just send in his wife Anita in the closer role. Use the Clinton line—you get two for one if Perry wins the presidency. Voila...

Rick had obviously spent long hours working on questions and the appropriate responses. Sadly, tonight he displayed symptoms of a neurological problem, not just a momentary memory lapse. When you combine his speech patterns and deer-in-the-headlights moments with this latest ‘brain freeze’, I’m afraid Mrs. Perry needs to take Rick home and enjoy what time they have left together. He is a nice amn, and he means well, but he is not well, IMHO. The stress is not good for him at this stage in whatever is wrong.

Some people are good one on one, and some are good as public speakers....Perry looks to be the former, just like G W Bush was....which makes it difficult for him to garner a large following. Plus, he is from Texas, and his accent is like Bush’s....too many similarities.

Rick Perry's inability to remember the third federal agency he would eliminate is simply part of being human.

I agree, though I don't support him. It is known that when "three" of anything is presented as a question the first two will always come to mind quickly but the third hangs most people up...they have to think and often get it wrong.

Example...

What are the top three cola beverages? ...and there are three. I venture all would be fast to say Coke and Pepsi...but what of the third?

Same with Phone companies....Utilities...Retail Stores...Soap Detergents...Car Manufacturers....and the list goes on

Always the first two can come to mind relatively quickly...the third...never comes as fast.

It is hard to imagine him successfully debating President Obama.

On the other hand, it is very easy to imagine him being utterly humiliated by Obama in debate after debate. It is also easy to imagine the MSM ripping him to shreds and Perry being unable to defend himself or defend conservative viewpoints. I remember Perry being called a "slick politician" here on FR. Was that ever wrong!

The sad thing is that in the future the revisionists will blame this brain freeze rather than the “Heartless” comment for the demise of his campaign. It was already over, this was just window dressing.

"Perry has bombed every debate since he entered the race.

He has generally seemed uniformed and uninterested in matters of substance. His forgetfulness was the only memorable thing about his entire performance.

Fairly or not, it has raised questions about his intellect.

Perry has also raised questions about his two biggest assets: his conservatism relative to Mitt Romney and his electablity relative to all the non-Romney candidates. Perry's slip symbolizes both problems.

It is hard to imagine him successfully debating President Obama.

And what conservative can't come up with considerably more than three agencies he would like to abolish?"

The folks defending Perry would be all over a democrat who did the same thing. When you`re a candidate talking big about how you`re going to take a wrecking ball to Washington, you should STILL be listing cuts you`d make three hours after the debate is over.

Saying Perry is human is insulting--they`re all human. He`s up for the job of most powerful person on the planet, and this is the interview.

I`ve kept an open mind, but Perry failed tonight. Looking at the whole field, I am convinced of two things that scare the heck out of me--Romney is going to get the nomination, and Obama is going to win as of now.

We have to turn this around, and fast. I have no idea who can do it. I like Cain, but if I hear `9-9-9` again as the answer to everything, I`m gonna hurl. The Princess line may make us chuckle, but one thing independents hate about Obama is his divisiveness--enjoy the yucks, but Cain is marginalizing himself. Newt is smart but he will be destroyed by a year of personal stuff. Depressing.

The problem of the debates with Obama can be easily solved by having Perry’s teleprompter debate TOTUS. Perry can go back to has mansion in Texas, and Obama can go on vacation.

Actually, the gaffe wasn’t all that bad. The problem was not knowing how to move on and dwelling on it.

Perry should have simply said, “It’ll come to me. It happens.”

His problem was in extending the moment into embarrassing silence and continuing to fumble it. Using that football analogy, you’re not supposed to pick up a fumble. You’re supposed to just fall on it.

That’s also the rule in public speaking. Short cover and then move on.

I’m really starting to wonder if, since his back surgery, Perry might be on some strong pain meds. Every Debate a disaster and the bizarre speech in NH where many thought he was drunk..... Something is seriously wrong here.

To paraphrase an old, old, Doonesbury strip:

Debate Moderator: Question for you, Former Speaker Gingrich. What's your biology term paper on?

Newt: Juxtabronchial organ secretions in the higher mollusks.

Debate Moderator: And you, Gov. Perry?

Perry: Our Friend the Beaver.

Cheers!
