The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will vote on a two-year, $109 billion highway reauthorization bill this week... The committee has not yet said how it will pay for the $12 billion

Funding would go from $122 million to $1 billion a year, and the cap on federal cost-sharing would go from 33% to 49%...

The bill would create a new National Freight Network Program...

Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., the ranking member of the committee, said he was pleased to join Boxer and other committee leaders on the measure...

Inhofe strikes again. Will someone from OK...Please tell me why OK keeps reelecting this RINO!

Freight is tight enough already with the down economy, we don't need a new govt boob admin to add more red tape to the process. This is just another UNION grab! Please make calls to DC...VOTE NO on this truck wreck of a bill! This will literally kill the future of truckers like us who remain independent.

The Archaeologists are fretting having to get a real job! LOL!

Archaeologists Fear Outcome of Congressional Debate on Highway Bill
http://news.sciencemag.org/scienceinsider/2011/11/archaeologists-fear-outcome.html?ref=hp
That pot, officially known as the Transportation Enhancements (TE) program, "has pumped a lot of money into our field," he says. More than $51 million, to be exact. But Clarke and other archaeologists are now watching anxiously as Congress debates whether to renew the enhancements program. Many lawmakers are calling for modifying the program, which has funneled funds to some 200 archaeology projects since 1992, and some want to kill it, calling it wasteful and unnecessary.

...provisions designed to reduce project delivery time and costs while protecting the environment. Examples of improvements include: expanding the use of innovative contracting methods

This means rewriting existing freight contracts in order to support crony capitalism and fulfill political union obligations. This means forcing the independent out by forcing them to lease onto already existing politically connected freight haulers & brokers in order to completely unionize the industry and bring us all into one ‘UN’happy govt run union.

What are you people doing sitting in front of your computers when you should be working or looking for a second job? You know how broke this country is, so move away from the computer and get to work, you disgusting, lazy slackers! The politicians need more money!

(Tough if you can't feed your own families. It's not Washington's problem. Get a third job.)

It’s one of those things that sounds good on paper, but the devil is in the details. (And you have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it.)

When they say it has bipartisan support, I’m immediately suspicious that I’m going to get screwed somehow.

Unfortunately for us, “screw the little guy” has become the new motto of our government via RINO politicians who claim to represent conservatives

Thanks for the chuckle. Our saving grace is that we are true conservatives and thus everything we own IS paid for. It's the costs of operation & maintenance that are killing us.

Of course. They have an unlimited amount of money to spend, because it's not theirs. They can always print more. The slaves will continue to pay them. They always do. Because of that, the beast will continue to grow.
We just sit back and take it every time. If we don't vote for Republican RINOs "The tax and spend democrats will win." (pot calling the kettle black)

(I've just become a libertarian. Too bad the only candidate is 100 year old man. Sheesh.)

Just got off the phone with Thune’s office. Was actually surprised she called me back the same day. So far the bill is stuck because they can’t come up with the $12 billion in cuts to offset the cost of the bill.

Will keep checking back with them daily.

Spending $109 Billion is “paid for” with $12 billion in phantom-fake “cuts”??

Math is not their friend, is it?

Jessica @ Thune’s office said the bill is stalled at the moment due to the lack of funding cut offsets. There are parts of it in no less than 6 different committees. It wasn't long after I got off the phone with her that the Dems walked away from the ’super’ committee negotiations.

What I told her was bill is the transportation depts equivalent of the obamacare bill that was shoved down our throats. I politely asked her to remind Thune that he didn't campaign on & we didn't send him back to DC to pass more bills so we can find out what is in them.

She got a little silent as I could tell from her voice that Thune does have leanings in support of another monstrosity that will further cripple our economy while effectively eliminating more jobs.

Rest assure the American Society of Civil Engineers lobbied hard for this. They run an organized lobbying program.

http://www.asce.org/WweekYear.aspx?id=12884903735

One of the programs they support is “smart growth.” This is a collaboration of urban planners, architects, and engineers forcing America to become urbanized. They hate suburbs and rural living. They are in bed with the environmentalists who think people spoil nature. The part that the ASCE plays irks me greatly. They are designing roads in suburbs where smooth roads get “speed bumps”, straight roads are made crooked, sidewalk islands jut into roadways, car lanes are reduced to make way for bike lanes. All this leads to more conjestion. Fifty years ago we started with interstate highways to make travel more convienient and quicker. Now it’s the reverse. They do this in the hope you become discouraged and begin to prefer mass transportation. I left the ASCE because of their support for this socialist crap.
