As governor, Romney worked to reassure liberals [soften the GOP’s hard-line opposition to abortion]

Mitt Romney was firm and direct with the abortion rights advocates sitting in his office nine years ago, assuring the group that if elected Massachusetts governor, he would protect the state’s abortion laws.

Then, as the meeting drew to a close, the businessman offered an intriguing suggestion — that he would rise to national prominence in the Republican Party as a victor in a liberal state and could use his influence to soften the GOP’s hard-line opposition to abortion.

He would be a “good voice in the party” for their cause, and his moderation on the issue would be “widely written about,” he said, according to detailed notes taken by an officer of the group, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts.

“You need someone like me in Washington,” several participants recalled Romney saying that day in September 2002, an apparent reference to his future ambitions.

Romney made similar assurances to activists for gay rights and the environment, according to people familiar with the discussions, both as a candidate for governor and then in the early days of his term.

If they will kill innocent babies, then they will be able to convince themselves to kill anyone. All they need is the right circumstances.

That is Romney. He has no guiding principles; he has been on all sides of every issue of our day, and that multiple times.

Romney is no truthteller.

I don't see how Romney can be anything at all ~ he has no core values AND worse, he does not respect the fundamental values of the vast majority of Americans!

At least with the old time Souvrn' state RINOs we could make a deal with them to vote to organize the caucus and they'd stick to it ~ Romney doesn't pledge to do anything for us ~ just for them.

That's like "reverse RINOism" ~ where the Democrats make a deal with a guy to run with us to carry out their demands.

I think we have to expel this guy from the party.

One of the other sites like this one is crawling with Rombot numbnutzes saying they will vote for the GOP nominee and it's our fault for four more years of Obama if we refuse to join them.

There is no difference in Willard and Obama, except that if Romney were elected, the GOP gets blamed for what goes wrong and Democrats win new seats each election at our expense, all the while getting their way in daily governance as well. Willard is a lose-lose proposition for us.

That says it all and the truth is that most of his supporters feel exactly the same way.

Conservatives are used to being betrayed by the GOP (see Bush 41 and Bush43). But I don't think we've ever been betrayed like I expect to be betrayed by Mitt Romney.

If it's a republican site, it's understandable, they think Romney is a republican because he puts an "R" behind his name.

I'm thankful that F.R. is not a republican site.

“Mitt Romney was firm and direct with the abortion rights advocates sitting in his office nine years ago, assuring the group that if elected Massachusetts governor, he would protect the state’s abortion laws.”

Of course he would Jim. There is no way that the G.O.P. will actually DO anything to outlaw the murder of the unborn. Why, that would remove one of the tastiest carrots that keeps us trotting in the direction that they want us to go.

We are the horse, life is the carrot. The G.O.P. has used this trick to get conservative Christians to vote for them for DECADES.....why would they willingly surrender that carrot? Even when they’ve had the power to do something about it; have they?

It is my humble opinion that this is why Herman Cain scares the living HELL out of the G.O.P. establishment. They fear that he means it when he say he wants abortion outlawed, no exceptions.

They will stop at nothing to stop him. I pray for his personal safety if these scurrilous harrassment charges don’t sink him.

Exactly, Romney has NO core.

One thing about Reagan, whether you loved him or hated him you KNEW where he stood. THAT is a man of Character.

Romney has no Character. HUMMM, that’s what we said about Bubba Clinton.

Aren’t people getting tired of the same ole-same ole in the WH.

Please, please Romney supporters. Do not give him the nom.

America will not survive with a soulless man in the WH.

God save us from degenerates like Romney.

"Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death." James Madison

Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. John Adams: letter to John Taylor, April 15, 1814

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

Thomas Jefferson
