MYFOXNY.COM - The cat that gained international attention after being lost at JFK Airport and then being found two months later has died.

Jack was on the brink of death when he was found in a customs room at JFK but it was hoped that he would survive after intensive treatment.

He was supposed to be on a flight to California with his owner when he disappeared in late August.

The veterinarian caring for Jack said more than two months on his own left the animal so severely malnourished and dehydrated.

He developed dangerous skin and liver conditions while trying to survive on his own at the airport.

Wow... so sorry that Jack didn't make it.

This will also be a lesson to me to never fly with an animal if I can possibly drive or use a pet taxi service instead.

RIP Jack.

When I see my cat stretching up on a tree trunk in the yard, sharpening her claws, it somehow feels right. She has hundreds of thick-barked trees out here, and any varmint that crosses her path in a threatening way will quickly be set straight with a sideways slash with those claws. After that, they can be friends. Ask the dogs and the coyotes.

So Sorry to hear about Jack. RIP. We have been debating the pros and cons about shipping our new english bulldog puppy or driving the 11 plus hours to pick him up. After reading about some of the experiences here, I am positive we made the correct decision to make the drive. One week from today we will head south ......and I will know exactly where Harry is the whole ride back home!

Sort of like what happened to my mother. She stopped eating and then couldn’t eat and her albumin level dropped so low that any bruise or scratch turned into a level 4 wound. We tried a feeding tube in her stomach but she pulled it out. I think she was ready to go to glory. She said she could just skip Purgatory.

And if ever I take a cat or a dog on an aircraft, I'll make sure I put a padlock on the pet-carrier. No one should be able to open it and let an animal escape like that.

My husband just shipped our cats using Delta Cargo. Holes were drilled into the cages and plastic cable ties were attached to hold the cage doors firmly closed (even though the doors won't normally open without some force). It looks like they're being more careful than ever with pets. Our cats arrived in fine condition.

RIP, Jack. Poor little guy.
