“In President Bush we had a good and decent man who was great for the country and 90% excellent. Yet so many people here have decided that the things he did that they didn’t like disqualify him for the respect he deserves.”

Huh? Count me as one of the stupid people who thought that too while he was president. But the real truth is that GWB was a lousy president. A one issue man who stuck with a military strategy for too long in Iraq that resulted in the needless deaths of thousands of our young men and women. At the end of the day, one man, GWB gave us Barak Obama, with the help of the equally moronic Republican Congress. These guys had eight years to do something for this country, so where is their legacy? Even now, the Republicans have left such a bitter taste in the mouths of the electorate that when they should be besting Obama in a cakewalk, the aren’t. Sorry both Bushes were failures!!!

The Perry haters are now in the fourth stage: denial, but the acceptance phase is right around the corner.

Say what you wish about Perry, but if he says he’s going to do something, likely that thing is already 80% done and he’s just in the final mow down the lawyers phase.

From the Perry for President site:

Allow Individuals to Choose Between Existing Tax Code or New Flat Tax System

Under the new flat tax system, taxpayers will have the ability to opt-in to the new system or remain under the existing tax code. Those families or small business owners who made investment decisions years ago based upon the structure of the existing tax code will have the freedom to remain in the current system if they so choose. And taxpayers who desire a simpler, less expensive system are free to move into the optional new flat tax system and take advantage of a postcard-sized tax return that could be filled out in minutes.

At first I didn’t like the idea of keeping the old tax code around for any amount of time still either, but when I read this, I realized why his plan provided that option. It does give those who have based their personal investments and business investments on the current tax code time to adjust so they are not HURT on their previous investment in our country.

Newt has suggested the same thing in his plan for the same reason.

Obama at least, didn’t write a book entitled “My Journey to the White House.”

Ok. Sounds reasonable. I still think 20% is too high. Also, the IRS will not go anywhere with this bifocal(if you will)tax system.

Make sure you count in the exemptions permitted in the Perry flat tax plan:

1. A $12,500 per person (adult and child) exemption - That would mean a family of four would be tax exempt on the first $50,000 of income earned.

2. A full mortgage interest deduction

3. Deduction on charitable contributions

4. Deduction on any state and local taxes paid.

Once one claims some of those exemptions, it makes that percentage lower than the 20% untouched amount.

Reading these comments from everyone only cements the my notion that Obama is going to win.... And that (God forbid) Romney wins the nomination by splitting us 18 ways to Sunday.... While the Libs stand together uniting we can't even agree amongst ourselves... All we do is fight amongst each other and bash each other and the conservative candidates as if they were Dems.... Real classy of us...

Ok, but isn’t the point of the flat tax to simplify and do away with most of the IRS? Once you start down the deductions road, you are in for a world of hurt sooner or later. I like deductions sa things currently stand because I get to keep more of my money from the govt thieves, but if we are going to do it right, just make the rate x amount and no deductions for anything.
Also, exempting $12,500 per person gets the 47% of non payers right back into non paying, and probably federal welfare in the form of paying them the earned income tax credit.

Not a concern at this point in the race.

We’ll be seeing the strong ones beginning to sprint to the finish line when the time is right.

And for those who are running the marathon and not some flash in the pan run, we’ll see the finishing kick right when it’s needed.

Running a hard race and WINNING will only make our candidate that much stronger against Obama.

That was a good sarcasm post, but eerily similar to the things Perry haters post seriously.

I know. I almost didn't put the /s tag on it but then I considered some of the stuff being thrown around.

Are you saying we should unite behind one candidate right now? Who would that be?

It sounds like an excellent plan. And if he sounded as good himself, he might be elected to implement it. But I just don’t see him overcoming the Great Communication Gap that is his public persona.

Conservatives are split right now between everyone but Romney and Huntsman.

I believe all the other candidates are conservative.

So there’s your question, YoungConservative1988. Which one should we unite behind?
