Herman Cain accused a former consultant to his unsuccessful 2004 Senate campaign, Curt Anderson, of leaking damaging information about past sexual harassment allegations against Cain.
Anderson, who is now an adviser to Rick Perry, denied the charge in an email to POLITICO's Jonathan Martin: "Ive known Herman Cain for about 7 years. I was one of several consultants on his Senate race in 2004 and was proud to help him. I'd never heard any of these allegations until I read them in Politico, nor does anything I read in the press change my opinion that Herman is an upstanding man and a gentleman. I have great respect for Herman and his character and I would never speak ill of him, on the record or off the record. That's true today and it's not going to change."
Cain's inflammatory charge came in an interview with Forbes:
In the summer of 2003, Cain recalls briefing Andersonhis general campaign consultant at the timethat sexual harassment claims were brought against him while he was chairman of the National Restaurant Association from 1996 to 1999.
I told my wife about this in 1999 and Ive got nothing to hide, Cain told me Wednesday. When I sat down with my general campaign consultant Kurt Anderson in a private room in our campaign offices in 2003 we discussed opposition research on me. It was a typical campaign conversation. I told him that there was only one case, one set of charges, one woman while I was at the National Restaurant Association. Those charges were baseless, but I thought he needed to know about them. I dont recall anyone else being in the room when I told him. ...

Anderson, who is now an adviser to Rick Perry,
Perry is so dirty. Nasty person. It is not Cain’s fault that Perry can’t make it out of the starting gate and is a loser candidate. Perry is the most foul person on Earth.

The problem I have is this word — ANONYMOUS.
I like to put a face on these people who are accusing Herman Cain of doing something inappropriate.
While we’re at it, let’s get to specifics, EXACTLY what did he do that was inappropriate?
All we have now are murky accusations, that’s all.
Just a tad bit hyperbolic, perhaps? Doesn't it strike you as just a little odd that of the three candidates with the best chance of winning the nomination the only one not linked to this mess so far is Mitt Romney? The guy who has been running for President full time since at least 2006. I wouldn't be so quick to buy the Rick Perry angle here.
I’m still waiting for Political to report on Barry and Larry!
Well, if Cain was so familiar with the accusation and background, why was he so totally inept at both responding to it initially and so dubiously ignorant for days after it hit.
My problem with him is not the marginally credulous accusations but, rather, his amateurish attempt at damage control. DEMOCRATS ARE PROFESSIONALS AT THIS!. Either he gets his sh!t together or he’ll get eaten alive.
That's all that's needed.....that mud on the wall thing and attack what sticks.
The problem I have are these words ANONYMOUS and INAPPROPRIATE.
I like to put a face on these people who are accusing Herman Cain of doing something inappropriate.
While were at it, lets get to specifics, EXACTLY what did he do that was inappropriate?
Let’s see EXACTLY what he did before we can determine whether or not it was inappropriate...
All we have now are murky accusations, thats all.
No names, faces, facts, Nothing.
The plan I think is to plant the accusations and move on.
Remember it's the seriousness of the charge, not the truth.
I think they're trying to overwhelm Cain and make him quit.
It could be a mix of Perry and Romney, remember, the likes of Karl Rove want Romney to be the nominee badly..and Rove doesn’t like Perry at all..I guess the bottom line is, who has the most to gain by Cain tanking, is it Romney or Perry? Someone told me that Perry would be the most to benefit since Cain supporters would most likely flock to Gingrich or Perry, dont know if thats accurate or not
One thing to wonder about is who will Cain throw his support behind IF he drops out?
Bet on Rommney.
Either the guy has been falsely accused...in which case Cain should have called and talked to him personally before leveling the charge (if they thought this highly of one another)...or this fellow is an unbelievably crass liar.
“Cain is accusing Perry. I doubt this accusation is unfounded or Cain wouldn’t
have made the accusation. This is heating up BIG TIME. “
I suspect it’s because Cain is hearing back EXACTLY what he told this clown...with its imprecise details...such as:
1) “A settlement”
2) “5-figures”
3) “Late 1990s”
The lack of details in the Political article DEFINITELY leads me to think that the person who leaking this information was NOT around at the time of the accusations against Cain...which points right to this PERRY guy.
DO YOU HAVE PROOF THAT IT WAS RICK PERRY THAT STARTED THESE RUMORS?
In the summer of 2003, Cain recalls briefing Andersonhis general campaign consultant at the timethat sexual harassment claims were brought against him while he was chairman of the National Restaurant Association from 1996 to 1999.
I’m not totally up to speed on this. Has anybody close to Perry denied that their campaign had anything to do w it, or is it just this one guy who says he didn’t do it?
this is over the top.
i will not vote for perry if he is the candidate.
Can I ask you to prove Perry didn't have anything to do with it?
Of course not and I wouldn't ask you to prove a negative.
