Shortages have more than tripled since 2005, according to the University of Utah's Drug Information Service, and by the end of the year more than 300 products are likely to be back-ordered, in short supply or totally unavailable. Some are anesthetics and pain therapies, others emergency room "crash cart" drugs.
But mostabout 70% in 2010belong to the class of drugs known as "sterile injectables" that are mainstays of the chemotherapy arsenal, such as paclitaxel or cytarabine.

Not to worry
On Friday late Lord obama signed an executive order directing that the FDA take charge and make more drugs appear
stroke of the pen, law of the land
Overlay this story withe recent public awareness radio and print ads claiming the number one health issue is the abuse of prescription drugs, and the access to prescription drugs to those who are not in true need, and I think you begin to see what the government is up to.
Oh and those stories made it sound like MEDICARE patients are prescription drug abusers
yes, there IS an agenda
Even the “Maybe they need to take a pain pill” solution is too expensive for obama’s death panels
You can't walk in a drug store without someone trying to stick a flu vaccine in your arm.
“Based on Hillary Clintons proclamation of a nonexistent crisis, Congress had been stampeded into passing unnecessary legislation. And even though the worst features of the administration plan had been dropped, the country was still stuck with a program that was more costly, cumbersome and wasteful than the one it replaced.”

the Socialist Sewer in DC continues to shower down upon Americans’s..all the time shouting about how hard its raining out there...
I have a friend who is getting ready to receive cancer treatments (chemo).
She said the doctor told her he wanted to prescribe a certain medication, but because the drug company is “greedy,” and they can’t get the price they want for it, it’s in short supply, so he had to prescribe something else.
Any meds injected are far more effective than oral pills. That also goes for antibiotics, anti-inflamatories, prednisone, and vitamins.
I'll bet that doc's patients would say the same thing about trying to get a medicare appointment with the doc who likely limits the number of medicaid / medicare patients he sees because he can't get the price he wants needs for it. So his medicare appointments are in short supply and the patients muse see someone else or wait.
I think the problem with the asthma inhalers can be laid at the feet of the Enviros. They don’t like the propellent in those canisters. Therefore, they MUST be banned.!!!! SIGH !!!!
The other inhalers cost ALOT more—& are available ONLY be prescription, which requires a repetitive round of appearances at your doctor to keep getting the prescriptions.
It is the EPA & the Enviros who are to blame.
You seem to have a problem with "big" companies which, at least to me, means you have a problem with success. I'm sure you also have a problem with "big" food, "big" oil, "big" insurance, "big" medical device, "big" transportation, "big" mining, "big" retail, "big" finance, "big" information and on and on.
The whole "big is bad" meme is a bunch of nonsense. If you have a problem with crony capitalism then your problem is with "big" government because government is the enabler of crony capitalism. Instead of railing on the private industries that created the massive amount of wealth we enjoy today, your ire should be directed at the big government that allows the quid pro quo to exist.
(think replacing CFC inhalers with garbage HFA ones
Again, your problem isn't with private industry. Do you think "big" bad pharma wanted to make the changes that will render their medicines less effective? Good grief. This is a result of government overreach. Period.
I am also aware of the cost of developing new medications and manufacturing quality generics.
If true, how in the heck can you complain about "big" pharma and your alleged crony capitalism? It costs hundreds of millions of dollars and more than a decade in time to bring a NME to market. The FDA kills most of these new offerings before they even reach the clinical trial stage. Yet, you want us to believe that "big" pharma and the fedgov are joined at the hip helping each other out. What a pantload.
I’m still waiting for Congress to grill “Big Education”
on why college costs are up 900% since 1978...
It is a great deal more complex than that. see post # 15.
Yet the global economy is more competitive today than it has been at any other time in our history. You're whining.
Big companies cannot participate in crony capitalism unless they are enabled by government. You keep missing the truth here that government is the problem, not the industries you continue heaping your animus upon. You appear to have a great deal of ire for American industry, but little contempt for our overbearing government. Very telling.
We live in an age of profit "uber alles", an age in which the only obligation companies have is to earn profit for their stock holders.
You and I have always lived in an age of "profit uber alles." It is the profit motive that allows you to live the incredible life you do today. I keep detecting an anti-capitalist bent to your posts. What's up with that?
To deny that there are those out there who place money and profit above all other things is to deny reality
You're not making sense again. I said your problem should be with government but you don't seem to think government is the problem. You want to demonize American industry, apparently, for the things government has done. That's nonsensical.
You also seem to be deluded into believing that the economy is a fixed pie and that if someone is successful, that success comes at the expense of someone else. A course in basic economics would explain to you why such a belief is absurd.
Big pharma wouldn't use lobbyists on K street to pass on campaign contributions to buy favors now would they?
Wow, industry hiring people to petition the government. Sounds illegal, but it isn't. You also seem to have a real problem with freedom. Just how many favors do you think "big" bad pharma buys from the fedgov when it costs 13 years and $800 million to bring a new drug to market? Yeah government is really looking out for "big" pharma. What a bunch of class warfare crapola. Are you posting from Zuccotti park?
Big pharma didn't bribe and subsidize:
Bribe? You're accusing them of committing illegal activities? If so, I'm sure the government is looking the other way because, after all, they are all the best of buddies.
Again, your problem is with government. They hold almost all of the cards over industry, especially the drug industry. Instead of laying blame for your concerns at the feet of government, where it most certainly belongs, you choose to denigrate American industry. Nice.
Are you a Ron Paul supporter by chance? It's unfortunate you never learned on which side your bread is buttered. Otherwise, you wouldn't come across as some misguided crusader for bigger government.
That's a bunch of nonsense. Just look at the companies algore lobbied for or Solyndra. You don't have to be a big company to benefit from cronyism. All you have to be is connected. I guess if what you say were true you could show us that the global economy isn't competitive....with all that crony capitalism going on out there. But you can't show it because it doesn't exist anywhere else but in the fever swamp of your imagination.
You can keep posting the same indefensible nonsense all you want but you have no idea what you're talking about and sound no different than all those losers congregating in Zuccotti park.
You are most definitely a big government advocate who doesn't have a grasp of basic economic theory. You also have a twisted understanding of human nature. But that's another topic altogether. How big government types consider themselves conservative is a mystery.

It’s heartening to see that you live in a world where the innate goodness of human nature is only corrupted by big government and connections.
