Tony LaRussa retires. Press conference now.
That’s why I had a sneaking feeling when the Cardinals made it into the playoffs, that they were going to win it all, you have to bring your A-Game to beat LaRussa, and none of the Cards three opponents in the post-season did.
A class act...one of the best in the business. Godspeed, Mr. LaRussa.
A great manager and a great guy, and he is going out at the top of teh game.
I was happy to see Bobby Cox retire with a playoff team, and I am glad to see LaRussa likewise hang up on a high note.
That is the way for HOF managers careers to end.
He went out on top.
Retiring on top... best way to do it.
he isn’t retiring. he’s paying up. he sold his soul to the devil for game 6, and offered immediate possession for game 7.
relax. it’s a joke.
relax. its a joke.
Or is it? Holy Robert Johnson Batman !
Thank you for the years, Tony, from a life-long Cardinal fan.
I haven’t followed baseball closely for years, but I remember him managing the A’s when I was a kid. I couldn’t believe it when I turned on the World Series this year and there he is still managing! Good for LaRussa. Any guy who can put up with Ricky Henderson AND Jose Canseco for that many years must be a saint.
Someone told the Rangers bullpen to forget about sliders and just throw fastballs away to Freese.
Is this the first shoe to drop and Pujols leaving the second?
Figured when he got shingles on his face this year, that his Picture of Dorian Grey painting had worn out. :)
Heck of a manager.
Would be funny if Pujols winds up in Texas. I think the Rangers will either get him or Fielder.
What a way to go out. Good for Tony. Not a big fan in Oakland, but he earned my respect in St. Louis, even as a Cubs fan who is supposed to hate him.
I guess Pujols doesn’t need the cash as he’s gotta be set for life both based on current and future earnings as well as future endorsements, business opportunities etc.
However, if he wants to add to his collection of WS rings, then I guess he may need to pull a LeBron and migrate to where the talent reaches critical mass, which may or may not be St. Louis.
I’m shocked. Tony is still relatively young, and could have easily managed for another decade. I was kinda hoping that Theo Epstein could lure him into managing the Cubs (and bring along Pujols) . . . .
The Rangers are now a pretty cash rich club, also they know now, that just making the playoffs no longer will cut it, so they are going to spend whatever they have to, to get over the hump.
I think the WS revealed that their pitching wasn’t all that. And I’m not sure Cliff Lee would have been the answer, based on what the Cards did to him in the NLDS.
The Rangers can’t afford Pujols. They are better off spending money for a pitcher to replace CJ Wilson anyway. I think Pujols and Wilson both wind up in NY next year.
Naa, the Cubs don’t need him. Maybe he will come back to the south side.
