Online Hackers Threaten to Expose Cartel's Secrets
Houston Chronicle ^ | 10/28/2011 | Dane Shiller

Posted on 10/29/2011 1:03:13 PM PDT by wildbill

An international group of online hackers is warning a Mexican drug cartel to release one of its members, kidnapped from a street protest, or it will publish the identities and addresses of the syndicate's associates, from corrupt police to taxi drivers, as well as reveal the syndicates' businesses.

The vow is a bizarre cyber twist to Mexico's ongoing drug war, as a group that has no guns is squaring off against the Zetas, a cartel blamed for thousands of deaths as well as introducing beheadings and other frightening brutality.

"You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him," says a masked man in a video posted online on behalf of the group, Anonymous.

Either these guys are crazy or this is too cool. They have posted a video using the image of the guy from V for Vendetts. It's in Spanish but here is exerpt from Chronicle article:

"We cannot defend ourselves with a weapon … but we can do this with their cars, homes, bars, brothels and everything else in their possession," says the man, who is wearing a suit and tie.

"It won't be difficult; we all know who they are and where they are located," says the man, who underlines the group's international ties by speaking Spanish with the accent of a Spaniard while using Mexican slang.

Of course, if the Zetas can find them, they are dead men hacking.

I'll bet releasing the cartel's business would reveal some extremely interesting information about highly placed gubbermint officials--of both mejico and the US gubmints.

How is it that these guys can get this info, but the feds can't? Or is it that the feds have the info but don't use it because of political pressure from office holders that have been bought?

Getting suckered for actually believing the group “Anonymous” is anything more than a bunch of half literate computer wizard “wannabees” in their parents basements.

This has got to be about the 50th story attributing some act of revenge or attack is going to be perpetuated by “Anonymous” to the cheers of the DU’ers, then ............ nothing.

Don’t believe in fairy stories and “anonymous” is a fairy story.

“international group of online hackers”

Oh, is that what they call 20 creeps that live in their parents basement sending out threatening emails and posts to the delight of the DU’ers that see them as all powerful super bots!

Give me a break. This group of hackers doesn’t even exist beyond a few kids that steal someone’s password and then pass it around or they wire up 50 computers to blast at a server and call it an “attack”.

That was my question and also my answer.

Anything these guys have the Feds could get or already have, but they make no moves.

Too much money spread around to big banks, and politicians.

We know Billions of dollars are being laundered or kept somewhere, but no one arrests the big bank guys.

Never ever f@#k with people that are more able and willing to kill. The Zetas will be more than happy to butcher every computer geek they can get their hands on.

You got that right.
Also, If some bozo hackers can obtain this type of info,
Why can’t the U.S. and Mexico’s gub mint do the same???
Cause they don’t want to. They make money in the drug trade.

speaking Spanish with the accent of a Spaniard while using Mexican slang.

I'm impressed. All I can say is "dos mas cervezas, por favor" and "donde esta el baño?" with a Southern California gringo accent.

I don’t care if it’s just one kid trying to get his brother released.

It’s a clever approach and whoever is doing it is putting their life in danger if the Zetas find them by counter-hacking.

Yes...the group naming itself “Anonymous” is extremely good at waiting for a companies server to crash because some poor clutz unplugged it...........then jumping up and down with posts of how they “crashed it” and the lefty anarchists eat it all up.

Yeah, that should work. The cartel will release the member -- one member at a time.

I think they should leak a few things to show they can do it. Otherwise, I don’t see why the Zetas would take them seriously.

Oh good grief; stop believing in fairy tales. There is no “anonymous” beyond geeky kids in their parents basement thinking sending threatening emails through a proxy server to a bank that is in Mexico saying “we know what you do and who you are” when they don’t have a clue is an attack.

Transcript of Anonymous video

“Anonymous from Veracruz, Mexico, and the world, we want you to know that a member has been kidnapped when he was doing Paperstorm in our city.

We demand his release. We want the army and the navy to know that we are fed up of the criminal group Zetas, who have concentrated on kidnapping, stealing and blackmailing in different ways. One of them is charging every honest and hardworking citizen of Veracruz who busts their rears working day after day to feed their families.

We are fed up of journalists and newspapers of Xalapa, Córdoba and Orizaba because they are constantly crapping on honest authorities like the army and the navy.

We are fed up with taxi drivers, commanders and “police-zetas” officers of Xalapa, Córdoba, Orizaba, Nogales, Río Blanco and Camerinos... who are chickens and have made themselves the most loyal servants of these (expletive).

For the time being, we won´t post photos or the names ... of the taxi drivers, the journalists or the newspapers nor of the police officers, but if needed, we will publish them including their addresses, to see if by doing so the government will arrest them.

We can´t defend ourselves with a weapon, but if we can do this with their cars, houses, bars, brothels and everything else in their possession ... It won´t be difficult. We all know who they are and where they are.

(Images with sound of explosions)

You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him. And if anything happens to him, you (expletive) will always remember this upcoming November 5th .

Knowledge is free. We are Anonymous. We are a legion. We don’t forgive. We don’t forget. You wait and see.”

Some here think the drug cartels are something more than what they are: a bunch of illiterate Mexicans with machine guns and wads of cash not caring whether the people they kill are infants, children, or old people. They just follow orders to push drugs to the USA. I can’t wait for the movie portraying this bunch of 18th century bandits as international internet savvy suit wearing debonair attractive dark haired and mysterious men in their early 30’s.
