A Pack of Nonsense Will GOP 2012ers Get Serious? October 26, 2011

John Podhoretz Memo to the Republican field: You’re running for president. Of the United States. Of America. Start acting like it.

Stop proposing nonsense tax plans that won’t work. Stop making ridiculous attention-getting ads that might be minimally acceptable if you were running for county supervisor in Oklahoma. Stop saying you’re going to build a US-Mexico border fence you know perfectly well you’re not going to build.

Give the GOP electorate and the American people some credit. This country is in terrible shape. They know it. You know it. They want solutions. You’re providing comedy.

Unserious: Herman Cain (l.) dismisses the idea that candidates should know foreign policy, while Mitt Romney pretends he’ll build a border fence.

This is a serious time. It requires serious leaders. Where’s the gravity? The reason that many on the Right have spent the year hunting somewhere, anywhere, for better candidates to challenge President Obama is becoming ever more plain with each passing day.

Herman Cain now leads in at least one major poll. He released his first TV commercial on Monday. In it, his campaign manager talks about how different the campaign is, then lights up a cigarette and exhales the smoke in a curlicue. Next comes a shot of Cain smiling devilishly. It’s impossible not to like Cain. But this ad is a humiliating embarrassment. This is his moment, and rather than rising to it, he’s behaving as though even he can’t imagine he’ll one day sit in the Oval Office. He discards positions when they are inconvenient, and speaks dismissively of the notion that a presidential candidate ought to know something about foreign policy.

These are not the actions of a serious man.

Funny how the insiders get in an uproar when the outsiders don’t play the game the way they want them to.

John Podhoretz should take a sabbatical and get a job at Walmart.

It wasn’t a TV commercial. These “pundits” are morons.

John Podhoretz Memo to the Republican field: You’re running for president. Of the United States. Of America. Start acting like it.

Why?

Will you start acting like an honest journalist then?

More great advice from the Republican establishment that lives in states like New York which won’t provide a single electoral vote for the Republican candidate in 2012.

It seems that Mr. Podhoretz has started his period.

You got that right, he is certainly on the left wing of the party. Years ago I used to email him when he talked so moronic. I was decent in my emails, and made good points he did not want to hear. He is very thin skinned and really nasty, and lashes out without much thought. I have not emailed him in about 4 years, and he probably has not changed one iota. It might be a hoot getting on his last nerve. I am glad I was not in his menacing presence, I might have had to gut punch him. LOL!

I suggest you read the whole thing unless you think Romney's an outsider.

On Cain, I'm not aware that the bizarre smoking guy ad is mean for TV instead of just having been shot for the internet. That would be very odd and poor use of media dollars.

I'm not so concerned about Perry running on the idea of an "optional" tax system instead of promising to replace the current code. It's political strategy. It's been used for 15 years or more. He's not the only candidate doing that.

He nails Romney on his lack of conviction over the Ohio union situation having supported the law in the summer and with it down in polls run away on Tuesday and Wednesday saying he supports it. The man is a weather vane. Weather vanes don't lead, they follow.

Well, you're right about me not reading the article at first, but now I have.

But as your posts on this thread illustrate, you're still a Perry Apologist.

It'd be nice if you read the article first before making any comment. I'm still deciding so I don't have a horse at this moment. However, comment like this doesn't help anybody.

Yea, it would, wouldn't it.

I'm sure I'm not the first to do it, and I certainly won't be the last, but as the author has proven in the past, he is far from a reliable conservative.

He takes Myth to task for promising to build a border fence, but refuses to take Rick "Open-Borders" Perry to task for his refusal to build the wall.

So forgive me the fault of not reading the dribble of a moderate talking down to conservatives.
