When the 'Stan Hits the Fan
National Review Online ^ | 10/24/2011 | Mark Steyn

...

And yet, and yet. . . . The foreign policy, hostage-trading, abortion stuff is becoming more difficult to ignore. I don’t think Charles Krauthammer’s assertion that Cain’s “winging it” fully explains it, nor does the Pundette’s that he is “incoherent.” Cain’s boast that he can’t name the president of Beki-beki-beki-beki-beki-beki-stan gets closer to it. It’s a cute line, notwithstanding that parochial braggadocio is easier to carry off when you’re a soaring hyperpower rather than a multi-trillion-dollar sinkhole whose citizens’ future is increasingly mortgaged to foreigners of one degree of unsavoriness or another.

But the ’stan shtick is a glimpse of the greater truth – that there are whole areas of public policy in which he simply has no interest. None. You ask him a question and from the recesses of his mind swim up half-recalled phrases from some panel discussion he caught once long ago, and he hopes he grabs the conservative line (“I’m proud to stand by Israel,” “we don’t negotiate with terrorists,” “life begins at conception,” whatever) but just as often he doesn’t (with Gretchen Carlson this morning: “No, abortion should not be a part of the political discussion”).

Another RINO attacking Cain? A siren call to an inconvenient truth? A foreigner who should keep his nose out of our business?

I'll let you be the judge. Please go to the article to read the whole thing, this is an excert of the middle two paragraphs, chosen because they were the middle two paragraphs and had what I deemed to be the most information -- there was good and bad stuff in the other paragraphs as well though, and I'm not an editor.

The Presdident of the United States wouldn’t need an Attorney General, a Secretary of Defense, or a State Department if he/she were able to do EVERYTHING.

It is nice when the Chief Executive has a photographic memory - but it isn’t necessary.

What is absolutely required is an individual of solid moral values and principles working for citizens in the White House.

You realize you're talking about Mark Steyn, right?

It would be nice to have a candidate with a sunny demeanor who gets the urgency and understands the way fiscal insolvency, foreign affairs and social policy interact. But maybe from a talent pool of 200 million or so that’s an unreasonable expectation.

Not an unreasonable expectation at all. We already have a candidate like that: Newt. But because he is not perfect (and because he once sat on a couch with Nancy Pelosi in an effort to open up across-the-aisle communication) he is considered an also-ran.

Cleverer politicians will “cram for the test,” and pretend to have an interest in all these issues, even when they don’t.

Cain’s sin is being honest. But that might actually help him in the long run.

These days all it takes to be labeled a RINO is to honestly express even mild disagreement with someone’s favorite candidate.

Sometimes I think Kraut and Rove have a little confab everyday with the GOP leadership so they have their attack points straight.

I think we need to remind Mark that we presently have a president that gets “wee-weed up” and has publicly given his opponents the finger.

They are both used to ‘shaping’ public opinion and have not acknowleged that the public is capable of having its own opinion.

Nothwithstanding the public school and university propaganda systems; many citizens are accessing other information resources. Those would be the people who work hard, raise their children, play by the rules and wonder why their taxes are wasted on druggies, lazy bums and career criminals in elected office.

To be labeled a RINO requires RINO behavior and
at least one observant conservative.

Yep, now we can be sure about what many have long suspected:

Steyn, with his screechy British accent, is nothing but a RINO stooge and an agent of influence. Obviously he must be taking orders from some neo-cons like Rove, Kristol and Brit Hume. Clearly, the destruction of Herman Cain now is Steyn's highest priority.

Next thing you know, Steyn probably will abandon his wife and elope to England with arch-CINO Ann Coulter!

Looks like Steyn is participating in the attack against Cain. Woohoo! Who didn’t expect this would happen? Steyn is part of the GOP establishment, and he promotes the establishment’s Candidate du jour by fighting along the flank, and chipping away at the edges of whichever tea party candidate is leading the pack.

It doesn’t matter that the establishment candidate he promotes has been hiding out and has refused to do the tough media appearances that Cain has done. For a shallow analyst like Steyn, that type of risk averse behavior is respectable. It sure helps eliminate the opportunity for “so called” gaffes. Gaffes that are so subtle and inconsequential, they have to be documented and advertised through broadside attacks from establishment pundits.

Steyn gives the whole game away when he said that our politicians should “pretend” to be experts even when they’re not. What’s he’s saying is they should lie to us, they should be politically correct, and they should play the establishment game. No thanks Steyn; we’ve got that President already.

Sitting on a couch with Nancy Pelosi promoting the Global Warming hoax is a pretty big offense

Oh, for crying out loud! This is Mark Steyn. He has lived in and paid taxes in America forever. He is raising his children here. He may opine. He is a conservative, and I for one appreciate him immensely.

Herman Cain needs to bone up on information. He needs to bone up on world events and leadership. Right now, he is only taking flack from other republicans, but if he makes it through the primaries, he will be going up against Obama, and the gloves will be coming off. This is a reminder from the right, and Cain would be well advised to listen and learn, if he really wants to be President of the United States.

Amazing, isn’t it? Anybody who thinks that Herman Cain isn’t ready for the White House is branded a RINO on this forum. Even Mark Steyn. I’ll take Steyn’s judgment any day over the some of the yahoos who are backing Cain.

Newt the supporter of RINO candidates. No thanks.

The Noot is socialist to the core.

And we do not need any across the aisle crappola on the global warming fraud.
