maybe I should have put in ‘willingly’...........
That’s on top of their “living”hourly wage
Isn’t this like giving kids A’s before the school year even starts???
Great way to kill off restaurants and blame rich Republicans for not eating out more.
Well I get irritated with it. If they do insist, I usually say, “so I’m not permitted to give you more?”
Then they look all embarrassed, and I say, “it’s a bad policy for many reasons, and why I won’t be back here again.”
If you want me to return, don’t force me into a box and make decisions for me about my money.
I used to work as a delivery driver. The only reason we made more than minimum wage is because of tips. And you only got tips by busting your butt off and being quick.
The problem there, was the overall business model. Our boss was really clever, but he was stuck at a bad divide. Two drivers was almost enough to cover all his business during the day shift, but 3 was too many and nobody made money.
So I really don’t have -any- sympathy for waitresses setting tips.
I stand corrected, I did work for a catering outfit and we did share tips, because it was usually the “caterer” who got the big tip for all her help and she divided it up among us. However, she insisted if any of us were given tips by any of the guests we were keep them for ourselves, not that it happened very often.
The only place I guess I could understand shared tips would be at a buffet type place since you usually don’t get much more than bus service anyway.
Flip side: If all waiters are guaranteed a 25% tip, what kind of service do you believe you are going to receive?
Today, a waiter knows that if he/she provides excellent service, they stand to get an exceptional tip.
This mandate takes performance out of the equation.
I usually determine the tip amount by how often they fill my tea glass...............
What’s the difference between a Canadian and a canoe?
Canoes tip.
basically, they want 25% or the next time you show up, you’ll get a poo-finger in your soup
oh, and always order a coors light while in san fran.
There were two sisters who served the customers. There was “big haired” Bernice and her “cute blond” sister Linda.
Bernice’s way with people was to treat every table like they were VIP’s and smile and be grateful. She never complained that she got shorted by so-and-so.
Linda, always counted her tip and vowed revenge on the cheapskates.
Needless to say, at the end of every evening Bernice had a bag of gold and Linda not a lot.
I learned a lot from her attitude about dealing with people
I totally agree with you.
Tips are a cultural thing whose time has passed. Why tip at all?
Whenever my wife and I go out to a restaurant, she says, “I hope you tipped them well last time.”..........
Exactly. If they're going to do that, the restaurants need to just raise their prices and pay the wait staff standard wages. I have no idea what it is in California or what it is now, but minimum wage for bar and wait staff has always only been about 1/2 or less of standard minimum wage. The idea behind that being they will make enough in tips.
That’s funny!!!!!
Then another cultural thing has reached it's limit as well --- minimum wage for wait staff being half or less than half of standard minimum wage. The last time I had a minimum wage waitress wage minimum wage was $5.25. For wait staff employees it was $2.33.
