DALLAS (AP) George W. Bush says that after eight years in the White House, he's happy to be back home in Texas and out of the spotlight.
But the former commander-in-chief tells The Associated Press there's one aspect of his presidency he still misses: interaction with U.S. troops. And Bush, who sent them to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, says that despite his desire to remain largely out of the public eye, he wants to make sure veterans and military members know they still have his support.
"I was a little concerned that our veterans don't think that I still respect them and care for them a lot," Bush told the AP. He added later, "There's nothing as courageous in my judgment as someone who had a leg blown off in combat overcoming the difficulties."
Good. He’ll make it so!
Thank you President Bush.
Nice sentiment,,, from the guy who dispatched the FBI to Iraq to investigate firefights and prsecute our Marines. Some of those cases are still proceeding.
Bush can stick it. My nephew is one of the Leavenworth Ten.
If Bush cared about the troops he would not have used them as tools to implement idiotic IR theories and fantasies.
Bush can stick it. My nephew is one of the Leavenworth Ten.
I agree. The C in C doesn’t abandon one single member of the Armed Forces.
I won’t get into what Bush could have done to prevent 0bama from becoming president through normal, National Security proceedures.
I hate to say it, but his treatment of Ramos, Compean and Hernandez would seem to also leave a bad taste in the mouth, as well.
If he’d leave our BP agents behind for the good of a drug runner, he’d probably do it to the troops as well, under the right circumstances.
You’re either in all the way, or your out all the way. Anything else is just pretending, for personal gain.
And people wonder why no Conservative wants another career politican for our nominee.
I’m sorry about your nephew.
Thanks. It will work out. He has the ENTIRE family standing in front of him, to the sides, and behind. He came home alive.
Yep. Bush can talk all he wants to now, but talk is cheap. The damage has already been done, and words won't walk it back.
Let’s face it GWB was the wrong nominee in 2000.
“Bush can stick it. My nephew is one of the Leavenworth Ten.”
Good lord,, thats so sad i don’t even want to imagine it. And yet,,, that kid has to actually live it. Even after all,, he could have pardoned them as he left office. Or even just do like he did for Scooter Libby and commuted the sentence.
But those kids aren’t important enough i guess.
He's still my president.........May God bless him and watch over him and his family forever!
Sorry Mr. President. You should have spoken up big time when Pelosi, Reid, Durbin etc. said those obscene things about our military. You are just too special.
And you know we tried for the Pardon. Bush’s buddy, the former Ambassador to the Bahamas, took a prepared package to the Prez at the end of his term. We had Jeb involved. George didn’t want to do a bunch of last minute pardons and leave with a legacy like Bill Clinton. That is what we were told he said. WTF, George, WTF.
The thing about this, this man, contacted my bro asking what he could do. He thought it was a crock. It is a crock.
And you're full of crap, Bush had nothing to do with it. This incident occured in May of 2008 and never went to trial until February of 2009........
If you want to rant about military injustice then direct it at Obama, not Bush!
Where is the evidence Bush abandoned this soldier? It never went to trial until 2/2009........and if I'm not mistaken, Obama was the CIC...........
I stand corrected on the date.
