With Governor Chris Christie confirming today that he won't seek the presidency, some big-name donors are finally ready to commit themselves to Mitt Romney.
"A lot of us who normally would have been in this presidential race a long time ago, have been waiting for Christie to make a decision," said Georgette Mosbacher, a Republican uber-fund-raiser and finance co-chair of the Republican National Committee who was among a group of Republican bundlers hoping to convince Christie to enter the race. "I think tomorrow, well be contacting one another and probably put something together with Romney."

At a meeting with other conservatives last Monday night, Catsimatidis said, he made the pitch for Romney's electability.
"The speech I gave to my conservative friends was, if you pick somebody who makes you 100 percent happy, you only get 47 percent against Obama," said Catsimatidis. "We have to capture the middle in order to win and make a change in this country. Ninety percent of them stood up and said, 'Youre right.'"
Mosbacher conceded there was "some disappointment" at Christie's decision, but said the public flirtation with Christie wouldn't make it tougher to raise for Romney, especially with Texas governor Rick Perry suddenly slipping in the polls after a couple of disastrous debate performances.
"Look, well raise the money thats necessary to beat Obama," she said.
[...]
Mosbacher said the big bundlers in her circle "do not consider a Perry factor."
"I dont think Perry has it in him to do it," said Catsimatidis. "Hes a lot better than Sarah Palin, but not a lot lot better. The danger is in the South, if the South fights the North all over again."

. Guard the Borders!! .... "Gard a sil?"
Perry really blew it. Get ready for Romney to be the nominee.
If Romney’s the nominee I am staying home election day. We settled for a RINO in 2008 and I hope we won’t do it again.
I’m hoping Perry or Cain will take it so I can finally vote for a conservative.
Who could have possibly seen this one coming???
/sarc
These sorry RINO, Country Club BASTARDS still think that THEY run things!
The Ripon, Country Club and Log Cabin Republicans have settled on Milt? What a surprise!!
Mitt may get the elite RINO establishment bucks but he ain’t getting the Tea Party votes so he is going to be the most expensive loser in American history.
Uh..NO.
These operatives and assorted country club inner circles of the Republicn elite can throw a lot of money around...but they are NOT going to pick the candidate. I will never give to the Republican machine again, not since NY 22 election.
THis is WE THE PEOPLE’s election.
I just checked out the article and the pictures, did a Google search on what’s his name..another hedge fund manager..hoofa. No thanks. There would be trillion dollar thank you notes for certain with this crowd.
Please reconsider what I hope was only a wording issue. I will not vote for Romney, not even to get rid of Obama, because Romney is not significantly better. I don't believe that Romney hates America like Obama does, but I also don't believe Romney will govern differently except to move us toward socialism slightly slower than Obama. No thank you, I'll write in Palin/Cain or DeMint/Bachmann before voting for a big government liberal who happens to have the "R" rather than a "D" after his name.
I'm still going to the polls though. I'm voting for the Congress, the Senate, and all the other down-ticket elections, where we need real Americans to stop Washington, whether the federal government is led by Obama or Romney. I hope you'll join me.
So lies what is wrong with the Republican party.
I would rather lose than vote for Romney. Flame away.
How come the headline on Drudge says “SARAH TIME?”
Perhaps it is Sarah Time! I hear bells in the distance.
FUMR!! I would vote for this lying liberal bastard if he was the last Republican on earth!!
I settled for Bob Dole. I settled for George W. Bush. I settled for McCain. I’m done settling. If we can’t have a republican who believes in the Constitution, then I don’t see the point in settling. Give me Cain, Bachmann, DeMint, or Palin, and you’ll have my enthusiasm. Give me any of a number of others, and you’ll have my vote. Give me Romney, and I’ll write in a real American, but I won’t vote for big government ever again.
At this point I think it is a foregone conclusion that Romney is going to get the nomination. Perry is being attacked by the left and right. Palin isn't running. Cain keeps shooting himself in the foot and nobody else can get any traction.
Perry was our best hope for a competitive alternative to Romney, but the attacks from both the extreme right and the extreme left have been relentless. He is either too conservative or too liberal. Romney is just biding his time and the media is allowing him to do so.
As soon as Romney sews up the nomination, all hell will break loose on the race issue and Mormon Church History and Romney will be toast. There is just no way Romney can survive the media attacks that will be leveled against him because of his church's 130+ year history of extreme racial bigotry. This includes all the Mormon Prophets throughout the whole history of the church asserting that dark skin is a curse from God. Romney will fold like a cheap tent and Obama will be re-elected.
Thank you all you Perry Bashers for contributing to this scenario.
Obama thanks you. Pelosi thanks you. Reid thanks you.
They did for a long time, being the Establishment GOP. Thus their "ranking" of the likes of Cristy, Perry, Mittwitt, etc.
"I dont think Perry has it in him to do it," said Catsimatidis. "Hes a lot better than Sarah Palin, but not a lot lot better.
They know damn good and well that Gov. Palin will run them off and take Country Club doors off the hinges by bringing normal American Citizens back into the decisions of government.
.
How come the headline on Drudge says PALIN TIME?
Perhaps it is Sarah Time! I hear bells in the distance.
These big-money “bundlers” have never had any goal but to keep the Pubbie Party from being controlled by those frightfully “common” conservative middle-class people who support the Tea Party, Bachmann, Cain, & Palin. They would rather settle for 0bamacare, abortion, and Federalized education than to have an evangelical Christian Constitutionalist be in charge.
