Conservative ire with Perry runs deep, reflects racial politics
The Daily Caller ^ | 09/22/2011 | Christopher Bedford

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s clashes with conservative activists are nothing new: A bitter battle over racial preferences and liberal judges has raged in the tight-knit world of Lone Star politics since 2001.

In the days following George W. Bush’s election to the presidency, the newly minted Gov. Perry had a chance to prove his mettle by nominating justices to fill two Texas Supreme Court vacancies.

Following Ronald Reagan’s unsuccessful 1987 nomination of Robert Bork to the U.S. Supreme Court, conservative activists had been awakened to a new kind of politics — the politics of judicial nominations — and Perry’s selection of Xavier Rodriguez in Texas only made them angrier.

Born in San Antonio, Rodriguez was educated at Harvard before returning to earn his law degree in his home state and practice law with Fulbright & Jaworski, where he became a partner. Though described by one opponent as “a decent lawyer and a decent guy,” the young attorney’s nomination forced his experience and beliefs onto Texas conservatives’ collective radar.

And when conservative lawyer Steven Wayne Smith picked up his newspaper and read that Rodriguez named the reliably liberal Supreme Court Justice David Souter as his judicial role model, any ideas Gov. Perry may have had of an uneventful appointment went out the window.

A half-decade saga began that day which, by its conclusion, was a Texas tale of racial politicking, an underage abortion ruling and an executive vendetta.

Nothing wrong with naming a Hispanic judge. But an inexperienced young Democrat whose role model was David Souter?

Two points. First, with all the Hispanics in Texas, it must be possible to find a good conservative somewhere. Second, as this writer suggests, race should not be the primary consideration. Especially when the politician doing the appointing probably doesn’t really give a damn about it except as a way to make himself more electable.

The same thing is involved as with supporting instate tuition rates for illegal aliens. Namely, Perry wanted to get the Hispanic vote. His first concern was getting himself elected.

Oh bull. It is the gutless coward, losing a political debate, that starts screaming “racists” in a vain attempt to silence their critics.

Headline FAIL.

Very few on our side are actually concerned with race. We just don’t think about it a lot.

Many on our side however, do hold principle to be very important.

There is a right way, and a wrong way to do things. Those who bandy around the “race” card are almost without exception, people who have a self-centered interest in things continuing to be done the wrong way.

In just about everything.

Perry is just another right-wing Leftist (aka RINO) like Bush and the Pubbie Party.

Illegal Aliens are a “race”?

They must be, the left says so. That means they need a country. Looks like they chose this one. They chose wrong.

Add “fools” and “Neanderthals” to that list. I read that from his most vociferous supporters on FR.

It is not racial to want to control one’s borders. If we invite another hundred million illegals in and register them to vote, America is finished.

Other than Huntsman, Johnson and Ron Paul would be a better choice than Rick Perry. As much as I detest Mitt Romney, I’d probably even vote for him over Perry. Hopefully I won’t have to.

Shouldn’t try to do two things at once.

It’s absolutely racist be against Islam and illegal aliens according to the left-wing (Dems) and right-wing (Pubbies) Leftists.

Didn’t you know Islam and illegals are a race? Which one I am not sure of but you first have to feel that they are.

Illegal Aliens are a “race”?

According to La Raza ("the race") they certainly are, and their objective is the reconquest of the Southwest as part of "Hispanic" (really Aztec-Toltec-Mayan) America. Cheap trashy pandering career hack politicians like Rick Perry are perfectly willing to sell America out to La Raza.

California has already been taken over, and will never again give electoral votes to anything but a Demonrat. It is bankrupt, largely due to illegals. Third World immigration trumps every other issue, including "jobs" (for which Slick Ricky deserves no credit anyway).

Anti-Perry conservatives are racists in the eyes of the Establishment, because Slick Rick was their insurance policy. In case RINO Romney fizzled, they needed another globalist phony to draw off votes which might otherwise have gone to a true conservative like Bachmann or Cain. Thanks a lot, Romneybots, for sabotaging the only real conservatives with your second-rate closet Demonrat “compassionate” hack from Texas.

The more info provided the more Gov. Perry looks like “Bush Lite”.It does seem playing up to the Hispanics is more important than sticking to his principles. One wonders if he could hold his own in a debate with the “messiah”.
