“I don’t think you get cancer from the sun....there are lower rates of melanoma nearer the equater.....it’s likely from lack of Vitamin D3”

B-b-b-b-b-but you get Vitamin D3 from the sun...

Actually, sun screens cut out some of the ultraviolet from the sun, but not all...the bad stuff gets through. And you are correct...D3 is very important for many things, including cancer prevention and treatment.

How much Vitamin D3 you get is a factor of WHEN you are in the sun, how much of your body is uncovered, the melanin(Sp) in your skin, and your distance from the equator...and probably other variables. And, yes, how much sun screen you use...me...I use none....bUT, I eat a healthy diet....

Technically, Naegleria fowleri is not a true amoeba - it is only referred to as such in the media by people who ought to do better research.

As a native Floridian the oldtimers saying was NO Swimming in shallow lakes in August plus we were taught not to stir up the edges of the waterline since this amoeba was supposed to be lurking on the bottom of the lake. Beach weather was August not lakes. Pools were good if kept clean. In Florida an inground pool can change to a polio-pit in just a few days.

According to a lead researcher at the CDC, when viewed under an electron microscope, this particular strain of protozoa appears to be an ardent Obama supporter.

Where did i see this before?

This cropped up in Bath, England, in the baths built over hot springs in use since Roman times. This was in 1978, and it triggered a long series of excavations and renovations which is reported here as "finally complete".

Not all studies are so positive about the Vitamin-D/cancer link.

"Contrary to expectations, subjects with higher prediagnostic vitamin D status had an increased pancreatic cancer risk compared with those with lower status…. Our results are intriguing and may provide clues that further the understanding of the etiology of this highly fatal cancer."

Stolzenberg-Solomon RZ, Vieth R, Azad A, Pietinen P, Taylor PR, Virtamo J, Albanes D A prospective nested case-control study of vitamin D status and pancreatic cancer risk in male smokers. Cancer Res. 2006;66:10213-9.

Florida has several cases of this each summer , usually in the center of the state . July and August isn’t a good time to go swimming in fresh water in Florida unless it is a well maintained heavily chlorinated pool . The beaches are great this time of year though .
