A prank that involved wrapping a Pickaway County stop sign and resulted in two men being slapped with criminal charges has claimed a second life.
Jeanne Shea, 81, died at 12:56 p.m. today at Grant Medical Center, where she had been since the Aug. 17 crash that killed her 85-year-old sister, Mary Spangler.
Shea was driving the car north on Huber-Hitler Road, with her sister as a passenger, when she drove into the path of a car that was going east on Rt. 56. Spangler died at the scene.
Pickaway County deputies found that the stop sign for Huber-Hitler Road had been concealed by heavy plastic wrap.
A posting on Facebook about the prank led investigators to Derek W. Greenlee, 18, of Circleville, and Seth R. Stonerock, 19, of Stoutsville.
Greenlee and Stonerock were each charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, a felony that could mean up to five years in prison if they are convicted. They also face one count each of tampering with a traffic-control device, a misdemeanor. Both are free after posting $25,000 bond.
After Sheas death this afternoon, Sheriff Dwight Radcliff said, Its up to the prosecutors office what they want to do.
Prosecutor Judy Wolford could not be reached to say whether the men will face additional charges.

Hitler road?
Sort of like the “prank” of erasing the double yellow line on a twisty, cliffside road and repainting it to go over the edge. (Sort of like what Obama has done to the economy.) I’d do beyond involuntary manslaughter here.
Two things...one 5 years is not enough for these idiots and two, why can reporters not write a coherent article.
20 Years each, picking up highway litter with a ball and chain. What idiots..
This is very sad. God bless these women.
I hope they lock these idiots up for life.
Huber-Hitler. Boy, ain’t that a surprising name?
How about a prison sentence where they will not be eligible for early release, and can only be paroled after either one of them reaches the age of 81 and the other reaches 85.
Pranks are harmless and laughable. This is NOT a prank.
Here’s teh story behind the Hitler street name: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3103060,00.html
The police already fired a dispatcher over this: http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2011/08/29/circleville-covered-stop-sign.html
Stupid brainless idiots. I cannot imagine any reason someone would obscure a stop sign by covering it with plastic? It seems apparent their intention was to deliberately cause a car accident, perhaps they were expecting someone they knew to come along the road.
I remember a case in Florida, where the 18 year old took the stop sign home and a family was T-boned by a semi. He had 20 years.
To a stupid kid it is a prank. Although 18-19 year olds should know better. Lots of “pranks” I did as a kid (12-16) might have gotten me killed or in jail - but I was lucky. I try to get this through to my kids - what might just seem to be a prank can have HUGE consequences.
Just the other night some kids banged on the door, rang the bell and shouting call the police, help, etc. - at 4 am. My wife was scared stiff, and by the time I got to the door they were peeling off down the street. I’m sure it was just some kids, but my wife was all worried. So not a prank to my wife. And for the kids - easy enough to get shot in today’s world if the homeowner isn’t disciplined.
"Pranks" like this is what they do with their lives, now.
I know there are many brave military in Iraq and Afghanistan today, but the point is that most of those at home do not have the problems on their minds; in the WWII era, almost everybody was doing something for the effort.
The maturity level was greater then, I think.
vaudine
That was interesting.
The Germans settled this area decades before Adolf was born.
wrap them up in heavy plastic and see how well they do.
That is kind of weird, isn’t it?
