Rick Perry Scares the Media & Democrats to Death
Real Clear Politics ^ | September 5, 2011 | Jack Kelly

GOP consultant Mark McKinnon says that the editor of a major newspaper told him, "We plan to declare war on Rick Perry and do all in our power to crush him."

Mr. McKinnon was outraged. "No pretense of integrity, professionalism or of unbiased news gathering," he wrote in Investors' Business Daily.

But I doubt he was surprised. This is what the "mainstream" media did to Sarah Palin in 2008, and what likely is in store for anyone Republicans nominate.

But liberals will go after the Texas governor with special venom because he is anti- intellectual, prays in public, takes the Constitution seriously and sometimes carries a handgun, Walter Shapiro wrote in The New Republic.

"It's almost as if Perry's political persona was constructed by bundling together all the fears and phantoms in the left-wing anxiety closet." he said.

Some East Coast Republicans share these concerns. Mr. Perry's "primary flaw appears to be a chesty, quick-draw machismo that might be all right for an angry base but wrong for an antsy country," wrote Peggy Noonan in The Wall Street Journal.

"He does very well with the alternative reality right," snarked David Brooks, the "conservative" columnist for The New York Times.

They were peeved with Gov. Perry for saying it would be "almost treasonous" for Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke to create more money out of thin air.

Ms. Noonan has said of President Barack Obama that "he rose with guts and gifts." Mr. Brooks has praised his "superior temperament" and his "perfectly creased pant." Because of their girlish crushes on the president, they are regarded by few conservatives as good judges of character.

But Commentary editor John Podhoretz, who is made of sterner stuff, also said "suggesting that Mr. Bernanke's easy money policy was tantamount to treason is the opposite..

>> [Perry] might be all right for an angry base but wrong for an antsy country,” wrote Peggy Noonan

Peggy Noonan is dead to me. After the way she savaged Palin and praised Barky in 2008, I swore I’d NEVER read another piece written by her.

And I haven’t.

Fortunately, I think the liberal media and the Manhattan Country Club GOP have each squandered nearly all of their political capital and have lost a huge amount of their credibility.

The nation is tired of elitist lecturing. They are hungry for what *works*, and right now that is Texas.

Not half as much as Palin scares them.

Indeed he does and that is a VERY good thing!

“The statists believe in a powerful, activist central government that advances a radical secular agenda in the name of compassion. They hide behind misguided notions of empathy and push token talking points about fighting for the little guy, all the while empowering the federal government to coercively and blatantly undermine state, local, and self-governance.” pg. 320

“The truth is, I don’t care what party the statist is in. The fact of the matter is, it is the statist, and those who support or enable him, who is the problem. For too long he has undermined this country by empowering the national government at the expense of liberty. An America defined by the statist in Washington is an America doomed to fail.” pg. 338

(both quotes from Perry, Rick; (2010-11-15). Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington.

Rice University marching band wants a candidate smarter than Texas Aggie Rick Perry

Rick Perry is a flash in the pan. The media loves to make straw men out of GOP candidates so that they can knock them down later, and there is a lot to knock down about Rick Perry.

2 more Rick Perry quotes in “Fed Up!”

“We are fed up with being overtaxed and overregulated. We are tired of being told how much salt we can put on our food, what windows we can buy for our house, what kinds of cars we can drive, what kinds of guns we can own, what kinds of prayers we are allowed to say and where we can say them, what political speech we are allowed to use to elect candidates, what kind of energy we can use, what kind of food we can grow, what doctor we can see, and countless other restrictions on our right to live as we see fit.”

“I do think George (W. Bush) is basically a conservative man who believes in God, in the greatness of America, in the protection of life, and in protecting our nation from our enemies ... (but) he turned a blind eye to undisciplined domestic spending while he focused on ensuring funding for a very important war against the perpetrators of terror.”

“Rick Perry Scares the Media & Democrats to Death”

Not really. They recognize him as an establishment conservative. They know he’ll make a deal. But appearances have to be kept up.

“We plan to declare war on Rick Perry and do all in our power to crush him.”

Just another good reason to support Sarah Palin. She’s still crushproof and has been tested in conditions very unfriendly to life.

Sarah Palin has been crushed in a way you don’t seem to recognize. She’s not going to win a single primary. Not one.

And yes, I’m a betting man.

Cincinatus' Wife, since McKinnon is with Romney
why is Rick Perry so afraid to take him on?
Orders from Rove? Soros? Mitt, directly?

I’ve concluded Palin is not running, so it’s moot, really. However, if she did run, I think she’d surprise us all. Obama is very vulnerable now. Could be more so, given another 14 months and the bully shovel of his incumbency.

Its still not Perry they’re after, they want him to win the GOP nomination. They want him in the headlines to draw attention to him. That’s my guess. ABP!
