Dominique Strauss-Kahn Arrives in France
The New York Times ^ | September 4 2011 | ALISON SMALE and COLIN MOYNIHAN

Posted on 09/04/2011 1:45:01 AM PDT by Cincinna

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund and onetime hopeful for the French presidency, returned to his native land early Sunday morning, in a low-key coda to the international furor that erupted when he was arrested in mid-May and charged with sexually assaulting a New York hotel housekeeper.

Mr. Strauss-Kahn and his wife, Anne Sinclair, landed at Charles de Gaulle airport shortly after 7 a.m. and emerged about 40 minutes later, breezing past a crowd of reporters without speaking before getting into a car and leaving.

But Mr. Strauss-Kahn, who was once seen as a contender in the 2012 French presidential elections for the Socialist party and who appeared to have a good chance of defeating the incumbent, President Nicolas Sarkozy, now faces a much more uncertain future.

Polls have suggested that most French people – especially women – have a negative view of Mr. Strauss-Kahn. A 2012 run for the presidency is now excluded, but it remains unclear whether there could be a future advisory or even government role for Mr. Strauss-Kahn.

NYT article is misleading. According to French news, a smiling and triumphant DSK arrived in Paris to a throng of sycophant journalists and high level CRS protection.
Almost all French comments were negative. “shameful” “disgraceful “ “he brings shame on all of France” “why couldn’t he just stay in NY? and numerous variations of “remember he isn’t innocent, was not cleared, the charged were just dropped”.
DSK and his billionaire sugar Mommy wife, Anne Sinclair, returned triumphantly to their multi- million dollar apartment on the super luxurious Place des Vosges. (where Henri IV was killed in a jousting tournament)
DSK still facing attempted rape charges in Paris, and a civil trial in NY.
If the Socialist Party thought they could use DSK to defeat Sarko in the 2012 election, they would welcome him back in a NY minute... make that 9 minutes!

Hopefully he never leaves France again, gets an incurable STD and dies in agony (or he attacks the wrong woman and she removes his tool ala Lorena Bobbitt.) What a schmuck.

If I had been locked up for rape, or even for buying a prostitute in New York, I wouldn’t have to worry about my wife meeting me at the airport, unless she had divorce papers in her hand.

Of course this is France and more than likely his rich wife has a stud on the side.
Diff’rent strokes, for Diff’rent folks.

“Shame” left France’s Leadership years ago....just as it did Washington for the Clinton years ago.

Thanks for the news from France, bt I couldn't help noticing a faux pas in your comments.

Henri IV, also known as Henri of Navarre, was not killed during a jousting tournament, but was assassinated by a Catholic fanatic, François Ravaillac. The secondary cause of Henri's death wastraffic congestion which allowed Ravaillac to get close to the King's coach. (Thus, nothing much has changed in Paris since 1610.)

You were probably thinking of Henri II, the son of Francis I. He was married to Catherine of Medici who after the Henri's death guided their three sons through their minorities to attain kingships as respectively Francis II, Charles IX and Henri III.

Henri II was killed during a jousting tournament in 1559, when the lance of the Scottish nobleman Gabriel Montgomery penetrated the king's visor and pierced his eye.

Henri did not die immediately, and his doctors' attempt to save his life is part of medical lore (or notoriety), since the surgeons were given permission to reproduce the injury the king had suffered on condemned men, better to be able to understand the injury. It did not help, and eventually the king died from septicemia.

And that ends the history lesson of today. :-)

(Sorry for being such a "know-it-all" but I loved the novels of Alexandre Dumas, and they got me to study the real history of France during the 16th century.)

Thanks for the correction. Slip of the iPhone! Henri II it was.
The Place des Vosges is still magnificent, a beautiful, living, historical site. Great place to visit, with nice cafés and restaurants under the arcades.
Will DSK dare show his face in public? Count on it! His expensive PR team has an image rehab team hard at work to re-looker DSK.
I dont think that’s the kind of Rehab he needs!

LATEST UPDATE
From Press TV:
EX-IMF chief DSK returns to France
Sun, 04 Sep 2011 15:01:14 GMT

Former IMF chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn has faced a cold public reception after returning to Paris for the first time since being charged with sexual assault in the US.

The former International Monetary Fund chief and his wife Anne Sinclair arrived at Paris’s Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport at about 7 am.

After doubts arose about the credibility of his accuser, Nafissatou Diallo — a housekeeper at the Sofitel in midtown Manhattan — the charges against Strauss-Kahn were dismissed upon the request of the Manhattan District Attorney’s office on August 23, 2011.

Strauss-Kahn, who was once a Socialist Party leader and appeared to have a good chance of defeating the incumbent President Nicolas Sarkozy in the 2012 French presidential elections, now faces a much more uncertain future.

Strauss-Kahn has been excluded from the 2012 presidential race and it is still uncertain whether he can have an advisory or even government role in the future.
