Maybe I’m just showing my age here, but I can recall a time when anyone even attempting to legitimize pedophilia would have been run out of town on a rail. It’s just stunning that anyone would think that this is alright.

If they are molesting children or creating a market for child pornography, they are not law-abiding. The only way a pedophile can be law-abiding is if they do absolutely nothing toward fulfilling those urges. In which case, we might consider that the shame and stigma may be the only thing holding them in check. Let's not do away with it.

the whole concept of pedophilia being deviant and damaging behavior is currently mostly an american idea. Most of the world does not think there is anything wrong with such behavior. Just as most of the world does not believe there is anything wrong with multiple wives, slavery, prostitution, concubines, mistresses, extortion, blood feuds, nepotism, tyranny, dictatorships, fascism, communism, wife beating, rape, torture, etc.
