Why are highly trained scarce and valuable specialists like SEALS being used for a mission like this that would be more appropriate for Rangers or airmobile infantry? If no one else was available than I would understand. Nonethelesw it would seem that you should save these guys for tasks that are appropriate for their unique skill level.

Spot on. I posted before I read both of yours. A Tier 1 asset doesn't get used for this; even if it was one of their own. This was a Ranger, Marine, or 101/82nd-type of mission.
I did 3 tours in MEUSOC, and this was one of our bread and butter missions.

Obamas sending into that dump of a nation our best men to pick up the slack when the regular troops leave...this should not happen! As follows from the AP:
“The coalition plans to increase its reliance on ‘special operations’ missions as it reduces the overall number of combat troops.”
I concur. The mission as described does not seem appropraite for special forces soldiers of the level of Seal Team 6. I smell rotting fish on this one.
